I don’t have RPM gauge but yes it feels like I’m hitting the rev limiter speed at 50 mph a couple of months ago I was only getting up to 40 mph mind you which is odd it’s like the more I ride it it’s like the top end speed slowly increases as I rack up the miles

I think you might still hit the rev limiter with the 17 tooth. Find out what your rear tooth count is and i'll see what's the smallest sprocket to use to get max speed for your set up.

If you go with a 17 front and 35 on the rear that will put you at close to the same 17/45 ratio that most of the dual sport guys have. This a good all around gear ratio that will still give you good take off power and a decent top end. 35 tooth will probably be about the smallest sprocket that will fit and not have the chain hit the hub. The gearing on your bike right now is a lower gear ratio than what the Hawk came stock with and it was too low even for a dual sport.
You can order custom sprockets from here fairly inexpensive. I just bought one for my X22R 250 for $31 shipped. I did save $7 by drilling the bolt holes myself as I didn't have the bike yet to verify bolt hole diameter. https://shop.pbisprockets.com/product.sc?productId=503

Before you order a sprocket get the diameter of the hub and i'll compare it to what's on my bike to verify the size.

You can put a small engine tachometer like this. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hour-Meter-...MAAOSwIgNXicF4

That should be an improvement in top speed.

You should pick up about 6-7 mph.

In order for me to gain more top speed should I go with a smaller rear sprocket as well?

Yes it will. A 35 or 36 tooth would get the engine running in that sweet spot on the higher speeds.

What sprocket can you use on the chopper? I wonder if it is the same as Jerryhawk's X22R since both are derived from Dongfang?
