Having riding partners is definitely an invaluable resource when off-roading. Sorry to hear the news about your bikes. I hope your surgeries go well, and who knows, maybe a few years from now you buy some pit bikes with a group of your buddies and have a fun, safe time.

Yeah, I’d been attempting to locate someone to ride with but I wasn’t having much luck.
Going for CS tomorrow and then to another specialist to determine is surgery is needed.

I took a look at my Brozz today. Tighten a loose mirror and hit the start button . She fired right up idles fine. Let her run a few minutes. Then shut her down. It gonna be difficult to get rid of my toys unless I can convince the other half. I’ll be down for 6-8 weeks. My specialist told me if everything heals properly no surgery.

Would you quit driving a car and sell of them if you got in a wreck? Would you throw away all glassware in your house if you ever got cut on broken glass?

Motorcycles are as safe as we riders make them be. We have to accept the reality that at the end of the day, the key safety device on the bike is our own eyes ears and brain.

You may have had an accident, but only you can make the judgement call as to whether it's safe to get back on one.

You could have gotten the same injuries on a mnt bike, would you sell all of those too? I got the same crap when my daughter broke her arm on her quad. But she could have got the same break falling of her bike or the mini horse my MIL insisted on getting her. That shut her up lol. Good luck and take it easy so you can avoid surgery.

My better half understands that no matter what happens, I will not give up my bikes. To compromise with her, and also because I just happen to love my own skin and body, I don't ride without wearing the proper gear.

You might have to invest in proper armor to convince her.

A little back story. When I was 28, a lady pulled out in front of me while I was ride my F2. I hit her an I went flying like super man. My left hand struck the car and I broke my radius in 3 places I have a metal plate in there. All my knuckles are broken and reconstructioned with bone from my hip. I broke one rib, broke my left tibia Titanium rod in my leg. My left knee has more screws than I remember and the cap was glued back together. I tore my large and small intestines and tore my aorta, repaired with grafts bypass heart surgery. Im suppose to be dead. I was in a medically induced coma for a week. I had to learn to walk again and how to use my arm . I was in theory for over a year. Everything was one left side.

8 months after I was riding again I was still using a cane. But couldn’t do it . I was nervous and uneasy. Gave it up for a few years then got back into to a couple times . I had a few close calls with stupid people. Then last year I purchased my Z-400. Something to have fun with and hopefully keep me out of trouble. But I missed the days of hitting the trails with my KX 250. I brought the Brozz. The other half wasn’t exactly happy as I didn’t disclose it until it was in the garage. I wanted to try out the duel sport. Love it . Just purchased the Honda CRF250 Rally. I was surprised I didn’t get much pushback.

When the latest accident happened ,I was riding with my boots , helmet and gloves. Left my jacket at home. I’ve regretted that mistake.

I’ve put my family, friends and body through a lot. I’m not sure what’s gonna happen. I’m still having parts arrive for the Honda that I ordered before the accident. I get a lot of eye rolling when they arrive.

I think in most cases if you follow your gut instinct you'll be proven right. if your gut says lay off then that is what I would do and if it says get back on that horse then I would do that. I aspired to be a bull rider when I was younger and being nervous is normal but the one time I was truly scared it didn't turn out well and God was watching over me or I would be a cripple today. my friends tried to get me to turn that bull out but my pride wouldn't let me. trust your own judgement, none of us have to live with the results of your decision.

You were definitely lucky. I think I just have a hard time relating to the broken bones. I have never had one. I have hurt many of the joints in my body, even detached a tendon once, but never even had so much as a hairline fracture.

I think I was just born and built to take a beating better than most. I played football, which is how I hurt both knees, but never broke a finger or a rib. Crashed a couple of bikes, even ricocheted off of a light pole at about 40mph, struck a guard rail, and had a bike land on me. Deep bruises, dislocated shoulder, and even a torn muscle, but no broken bones.

I would say let yourself heal, and just work on a compromise with the Mrs. Maybe pick just one bike and stick with it. As Ina Ditch said, sometimes it helps to simply follow your instincts.

It’s tough going into the garage and seeing everything parked. I was already tinkering today pulling the bark and weeds from the frame. I grabbed the shifter an attempted to straighten it I had to stop, maybe in a few weeks.

Thanks for all the advise guys.

The choice to ride is a personal choice and you should weigh it out with not just your luck and history, but also your current life situation. Example: When my daughter was an infant and I had a brand new mortgage, I chose that to be a good time to sell my drag bike and stay off for a while.

Life experiences can really weigh in. A buddy of mine I used to ride with all the time took a bad spill, and it spooked him for life. I suggested he sell his bike then. Once you get spooked or scared is when bad reactions happen.

That said, if you're like the rest of us, at least one bike in the garage isn't an option, it's sanity. Even if parked for a length of time. I've had "two wheel drinking partners" for years at a time. At least he was in the garage, always willing to listen and be preened.

Good point, it ain't like a horse, once you park it you don't have to feed it anymore. I understand your concern though, I have broken my back and had retinal damage to my one good eye and every time I have a close call I am cussing myself for taking chances but I just can't help myself. most modern american working men have to make their own adventure and this is the adventure that I can afford.
