As long as the battery had enough juice to power the fuel injection side of things, even the kick start would work. If we are talking a completely flat battery, even kick starting would be a pain in the rear.

That system I linked is the same one JerryHawk mentioned above. THe fuel pump/regulator is the only part of that kit that is really a bit questionable, although some of the firmware seems to have been a bit buggy as well. I would have to judge it on just one persons example, but there is a fairly limited number of posted examples on the internet of peoples builds with it.

EFI is like magic, when it works. I love it on my Ninja 300, but it's got no particular vices other than me needing to spend $300 on a tuner because the fueling was utter trash from the factory. It seems that only now are manufacturers working out good, linear throttle response is important. About time.

Anyway...

When it isn't quite right it's hard to sort out. Look at the RX3 low speed stalling that the carb'd variant doesn't suffer from. Almost impossible to troubleshoot. See also the inimitable Motocheez's adventures with his CRF.

I'm quite pleased with the VM26 clone on my 'Zong. By accident rather than design I've got something that starts within one crank (using no throttle) most days, and on the colder days only needs a little encouragement.

Fuel injection on most modern bikes tends to have rather poor low speed and throttle enrichment tables. It's one of the reasons a lot of modern European and Japanese bikes in particular have choppy throttle response. I am sure the RX3 suffers from something similar, and it all comes back to emissions regulations making manufacturers lean out their fuel tables and then being very soft with the enrichment to try and blow just slightly cleaner out the tail pipe. The KTM 690 I recently rode was a great example of this kind of issue, and that big single is still really easy to stall out. Most of those same bikes after a re-tune and an exhaust become smooth and responsive.

Honestly, if I decide to go through with some sort of EFI conversion on my bike, I will always have a carb on standby with the bike wired in such a way to make a quick conversion possible just in case there was some sort of problem away from home.

Love it. For all those efi bike stuck on side of road. Emergency carb, break the vacuum seal, install and go
