I've put 12K miles on my TT 250 in the last year as of yesterday and in all of the oil changes that I've done there hasn't been a single thing in the oil screen so in all honesty I don't see a filter as a necessity on these engines.

I've not found anything in the filter screen on any of my 4 CG engines. The centrifugal filters always have some fine material though.

Paper filters are for catching micron small elements. Unless its a chunck of metal, youre not going to "find" anything in a screen.
I plan on getting an oil cooler kit with the adapter that screws into where the screen is. Dont worry about gettig a kit with the external filter. Its just the same garden hose filter in there. Im going to get an actual filter unit for the oil line. |

The oil screen is for large particulate. The centrifugal filter is where all of the small stuff a paper oil filter would normally catch.
