i just wanted some body to pat me on the head and tell me i was heading in the right direction.the more i thought about it,the honda motors exciter ran off the back of the cam and did have a centrifugal weight assembly on it so it makes sense that even though the bike ran great under acceleration and at idle ,the spark could be set up to come at a different time at very low rpm like start up

I remember reports of "performance" CDIs giving a similar problem. The curve was too advanced and they would be hard to start. Ran great after they were started.

Suggest trying a stock Chinese CDI.

I agree with the others. I would try a Chinese CDI unit. Although they are infamously lacking in robustness, they are certainly inexpensive, plentiful, and easy to replace.

They fail semi-frequently. I've had them fail in a few hundred miles, although some have lasted thousands. Cheap and easy to replace.

The make good power, but they are prone to failure. I usually need to replace my Zongshen CDI unit every 12,000 miles, or so. However, these CDI units are so inexpensive, it's not a major problem. The Japanese CDI units usually cost 4-5 times the price of the Chinese CDI units.

Make sure the first, Chinese CDI unit works well for you. If it works well, then I do suggest you purchase another, spare CDI unit. Also, the spare unit greatly facilitates troubleshooting the electrical system.
