Actually the Versus does not look like a bad deal to me, and at 51 lbs less, with substantially more power from it's Ninja engine I would not count it out. BTW the KLR still stacks up nicely.

You can't trust that comparison website, Doc. The Honda NC700X has a 472 pound curb weight, which is only 18 pounds more than the Kawasaki Verysys.

http://powersports.honda.com/2012/nc...fications.aspx

However, I do like the Versys. I just think the Honda NC700X is a much better value. I also agree the Kawasaki KLR650 compares very nicely to both bikes, and is an exceptional value.

Hmmmmmm.

Good point about that website Spud! I did not know, I just pulled it up quickly. :?

Motorcyclist.com states the HP differential at 51 RWHP on the Honda vs. 60 RWHP on the Versus. Neither bike is a screamer but that is a substantial difference, especially if you factor in the 18 lb wt difference.

One thing I can't fault the Honda for is its lack of off-road prowess. It is clearly not what it was designed for and its just a styling thing. Kinda like an H3 Hummer. Not an off road vehicle, just a look.

I bet Honda will sell these at a loss (maybe the CRF250L also) to gain market share, and then the prices will change. If I am right like I say if someone wanted to buy a new Honda this is a good time.

The KLR really is a good value though also, isn't it? 8)

Especially in the winter when Kawasaki throws in their $1,000 rebate on the leftovers  .

As usual, you make an excellent point, Doc. However, the NC700X has much better storage and luggage options than the Versys. Also, I can live with 9 fewer ponies and 18 extra pounds if I can save $1,900 on the MSRP.

I agree. However, in this regard, I think the NC700X has as much off road prowess as the much more expensive Versys. Nevertheless, I would personally prefer the KLR650 to both those motorcycles.

I still prefer my Honda XR650L to the KLR650, mainly because my modified XR650L weighs 95 pounds less than a stock KLR650. However, the KLR650 is a much better adventure motorcycle than my XR650L, and is perennially an exceptional value.

Amen to that Spud! :P

I was never a fan of the Versus either. Between these two I'd likely pick the Honda.

It's hard to compare prices apples to apples. The MSRP and what the bike sells for after bargining are sometimes quite different. If there is no discount on Kawasaki's part, I picture a lot of leftover KLX's and Versus's this winter...

Also no question about it your XR rocks and souits your needs to a 'T'. :P

I think of the KLR as the most dirt worthy light touring bike. Or the lightest most dirt worthy adventure bike. In that context it makes sense, and I agree is a great value!

P.S. I don't want an automatic transmission on a motorcycle, either. However, the automatic transmission is an option on the NC700X.

That bike's actually at the top of my list if I make the change from the TC. It would be a light, excellent handling unit in my local terrain of canyons compared to my touring unit, yet large enough for 'some' open roading.
I like it........

I think the NC700X will appeal to a lot of riders. I bet Honda has produced a real winner with this new bike.

I went to the local Honda shop this afternoon to pick up some sprockets I had ordered. While there, I got a chance to see the NC700X up close, in person; it's a very nice motorcycle!

They like it on the Gold Wing forum . Even a few were purchaced.

http://gl1800riders.com/forums/showt...5-Nc700x/page2

I actually saw/heard one last week while I was on my lunchtime walk.

It sounded like a cross between a scooter and a riding mower :? .

As I've said nice bike but not for FastDoc.

I read a few posts from the thread you linked, Doc. Some of the Gold Wing owners really seem to like the NC700X.
