I own a Hawk 250 and this bike. Depending on the speeds you will need to travel the X22R 250 would definitely be a better daily commuter for 60+ mph speeds. But then again if I had more street oriented tires on the Hawk it would be a more street friendly bike. But that would defeat the purpose of having the Hawk for off road. lol The X22R just feels more comfortable at the higher speeds and is a much smoother ride. I looked at my GPS app last night and I road for 2 hours and 42 minutes on Tuesday and never felt tired or saddle sore. On my Hawk I could ride about an hour to and hour and a half and would have to take a break. By the end of the day my butt was sore. When i'm off road on the Hawk I don't have that problem because i'm on the pegs most of the time.

Thanks Jerry. That kind of information definitely helps. My daily is a Ram with a hemi and 35” Toyo MTs that gets a combined 12mpg so I’m looking for a fun bike that will also ease the pain when I have to travel an hour for work, an hour to visit the girlfriend, an hour to visit family, an hour and a half to the lake house, etc.

It sounds like I need to get the street bike now and the enduro as a second bike based on what you’re saying.

As my two cents, this bike is a better commuter. Pegs and bars can be adjusted to suit the rider, but trying to make a Hawk a good highway bike is a potentially expensive endeavor.

Well, it’s my 40th birthday and I’m 5 Corona Extra deep before going out to eat so I went ahead and ordered the bike! Now I need to use these Amazon gift cards to order some gear. I gave away my old helmet, leather jacket, and gloves a decade ago.

Thanks so much for the help guys. I can’t wait to get the bike. I ordered black so I’ll buy some black, silver, and white gear.

Happy birthday to me!

They really are. I’ve exchanged about 6 emails each way with them and they’ve been quick to respond and extremely helpful.

I guess the real test for customer service is how the bike shows up vs how quickly they answer emails before they have the money though.

I also exchanged emails with Jeff at Peace Sports and had a conversation with him on the phone and he was fantastic as well. I’d feel 100% confident in doing business with either company. I just happened to select a different type of motorcycle than what he offered, but I hope to buy from him in the future.

I need to shop for black, silver, and white gear! Are there any budget friendly brands you guys recommend? I’ve searching revzilla for ideas and then will cross shop Amazon. I need a decent helmet, gloves, and lightweight perforated jacket for the South Georgia heat.

I just bought this jacket on Amazon. 10% off. Has a removable liner and very warm for winter riding.

This will really depend on your budget, but take my advice and don't go too skimpy if you can afford not to. If you are going for full atgatt, then expect to end up spending at least around 800 bucks through revzilla for the decent "affordable" gear.

If you are on a shoestring budget then at least get a decent helmet. The Scorpion EXO R420 is probably the safest helmet you can get sub 200 bucks, and is actually decently comfortable and quiet. It's SNELL certification being the safety benchmark. After that, good riding gloves. From there some ultrra budget jackets and pants like the one Jerry linked can at least fill the gap in until you can afford something better. Might not be the best, but it will be better than a t-shirt and jeans.

Also, before you think that spending almost as much on gear as one of these bikes, keep in mind that this is an investment in yourself, not your bike. This gear can go with you to other bikes when or if you decide to upgrade. I find it humorous that I ride my Hawk in gear worth as much as a Hawk.

Happy belated birthday, Chrisguga! You did the right thing by treating yourself to a new motorcycle.

Now that I officially have a motorcycle on the way, I need to plan my first round of mods. These will be commuter friendly and then I’ll work on performance mods in the future.

Jerryhawk, I wanted to ask the questions here rather than through PM to help anyone else who’s interested in this bike...

You mentioned changing the rear sprocket to lower rpms at highway speeds. Do you have a link to where you bought it? You said it was a custom ordered part. Can you list out exactly which options and specs you selected to make it work properly?

Many upgrade batteries on these bikes. Is there a common/popular agm or gel battery you’d suggest I buy right off the bat?

I believe you upgraded your headlight. That’s definitely something I’d like to do. Which bulbS did you use? Do you recommend them? Where did you buy them?

I’ll eventually mess with the carb, but I always read that I shouldn’t buy anything for the carb until you get the bike and verify what you have.

Thanks a lot! Can you tell I’m excited?!?

I got the sprocket from here. https://shop.pbisprockets.com/product.sc?productId=503
A 35 or 36 tooth would be best for the highway. Center hole is 64mm. 5 bolts, 96mm bolt circle, 10.5mm diameter holes. This is the same as the jtr242 sprocket only JT sprockets only come in 50 and 53 tooth.
I'm posting from my phone right no but will list the links when I'm at my computer for the rest of the mods.

Took some pictures to compare the size of the X22R with the Hawk. I also took them both out for a ride. I need to spend equal time with the Hawk so she don't feel left out. Lol

The seat to peg distance looks almost the same as the Hawk. Just shorter height and smaller wheels that make it look smaller. Great set of pictures to give some perspective.
