Loncin has proven to be good quality, And it looks better and seems less "decorated" which I like.

The specs, for what they are worth, if anything, say the L/C Loncin makes about 8-9 more N/m of torque. It also seems to be an OHC vs. OHV, which I appreciate.

Her's an interesting specimin, a Lifanoid L/C 250:

Check this out!

I can't make it out, but it almost appears to say "Zongshen" on the side of the motor. Anyone else see that?

If you hover over the picture of the back end showing the swingarm, does it ever look out of alignment! That one makes me nervous... but it's not my money, Doc! :P

I can't read the writing on my computer. It had a Lifanoid 'shape'. I think that what makes the swingarm look out of line is distortion from a wide angle camera lens they took the picture with.

Its the ol' Chinese Crap Shoot.

I agree, just wondering if it's worth the extra money. L/C has it's appeal here, Desert summer days here are frequently in the 90+ degree range, and ATV speeds are so slow I wonder about their cooling ability.

On the other hand, it's Chinese.

Although there is a Loncin type dealer here to get parts and service from...

I tried to clean up the pic a bit and it looks like the word starts with a Z and ends with an N so I am going to guess it is a Zongshen engine. The water cooling kind of scares me but Zongshen makes awesome engines and lots of em, so it might be fine. Only $200 more than my Beast (which I still haven't gotten dialed in just right).

The Verdict...

I bought a Kawasaki!

I finally found a nice one for sale locally at a great price. It was exactly what I wanted, and it sure works great.

It's a 2006 Bayou 250. It has a shaft drive which I like a lot, a 5 speed manual plus reverse, semi-independant rear suspension, Showa shocks, Mikuni carb, fully independant front suspension. All the bells and whistles, and 21/22 inch Dunlops. Not a scratch on it, very low hours. It was owned by a farmer who used it to patrol his property, and has since moved up to a 400.

$1,500!

It needs nothing. I'll change the oil and gear fluid, wash and lubricate it's bits and call it a victory. No tinkering required.

I'll take some pics tomorrow. 8)

Suddenly, I don't mind if it snows!

Congrats on the purchase! I think you made the right decision... Sometimes I don't mind tinkering, other times I just want to ride . Riding usually wins out over tinkering though. Enjoy the Kawi.

Anybody know where I can download an owner's manual? I want to give it a thorough service and don't have a manual.

Doc,

Congrats! Excellent purchase. I'm always amazed at what some things sell used for in the US (Bikes especially.) That quad would demand twice that here, at least!

I managed to find a .pdf of the manual for my YZ by just typing it into google and clicking a few of the links. You may find it by just doing some searching online in handy .pdf format.

Congrats on the new purchase. Sounds like you got a heck of good deal.

Money wisely spent. I would have bought the kawasaki too. You will have it for years.
