Throw that Zong 450cc engine in a Hawk clone or a RXB/Titan and tack a few hundred bucks on and sell them like hotcakes

A bike like that with an NC 450 and I am all in! Gotta happen someday!

Well Lifan does plan on bringing the KP350 and KPT450 to the US soon. That should tick a lot of you guys boxes.

I would go with the two bike plan for sure. 65 mph up hills, and not a scrawny guy like myself, you’re going to need a real street bike for that basically. I’m thinking the KPX would not be maintaining 65 up long hills. The MT03 looks waaaay better for your commute. Plus the reserve power to get past awkward situations on the highway.

Then, keeping that hawk for more off-road would be a perfect compliment. I can’t see how you would go wrong with this plan. I guess the MT03 costs a little bit more and weighs just a little bit more. But having a smooth stress free commute every day seems like it would be well worth it to me.
I mean, if I want power I have a 172whp V4 missile of a motorcycle, but it gets the same mileage as my little Nissan Versa, so it's not really practical for commuting duty. If I have to choose between the two it will come down to the Nissan for the sake of comfort and convenience.

My Hawk can do 65mph on the highway fairly well, but it is pretty tapped out, and on a big enough hill it will slow down to about 55-60, which isn't very fun, and there is three such hills on my journey. Omaha is one of the hilliest cities in the U.S., which I am sure will surprise some people.

I am down to 256lbs as of Monday, which is a huge weight loss for me, but still a hefty sum of a human for a 230cc bike to haul around. I wouldn't even mind the slowing down bit, but it's where I would be slowing down that is scary, even for me.

I actually have about 4500 I could spend right now to get a bike, but I may wait just a bit and read some reviews/reports from other people. If it can hold 60-65 on a moderately steep hill with some weight on board, I may just do it. I love having a dual sport for the simplicity of being able to just turn off on any old gravel road and see what's over the horizon.

I remember the KP350 concept from a year or two ago. It would have to impress the heck out of me to choose it over an MT03. The MT03 actually has one thing going for it that many smaller cc bikes don't. It's actually a full size frame. It's a skinny little thing, but still taller in the seat and larger in the "rider box" than almost any other sub 400cc street bike I have ridden. That is one reason I am so interested in it. My height limits my choices with small displacement bikes because of that smaller rider triangle that the rest of them have.

Now, the KPT450 is interesting, but it is more like an ADV bike, and I decided a long time ago that if I was going to go that route I would just get an Africa Twin lol.

With the 6 speed, the KPX 250 has an advertised top speed of 75mph. I think 65 mph will be doable for commuting. We shall see.

Yeah, the extra power and 6th, plus a bit more weight for stability, makes it a better highway bike.

Oh, forgot to add to wish list.. 6th gear, 450cc or higher engine in hawk clone AND dont increase the weight. These boogers are heavy enough.. Im thinking of something like a Beta 390 with silly power and only 260 lbs.. just without the Beta price lol

Yeah, I don't disagree, but I have a feeling the second I hit a headwind, it may be pegged pretty hard, and the reality of wind where I live is very real. It's a constant lol. A "light breeze" here is 10-15mph on your typical day. 20-40mph winds are not that uncommon.

Now, the EFI will make for more consistent power, and the OHC engine will definitely pull at the top of the RPM range better than the CG engine can without a doubt. So there are those factors. Still, I know my Hawk makes close to the same power as that Lifan is rated for, even if it was a bit less, it isn't by much more than a hp or so. Me + Hawk + 20mph (or more) headwind = not 65mph.

Like I said, I will just have to wait and see if anybody close to my size can report back on how they do on the highway. Even with losing weight, I am still the equivalent to strapping a sail on to one of these bikes lol.

Between the X22R and the Ghost i can tell you the OHC engine does way better on the top end as far as power. On my Hawk the wind can kill you top speed quick. But I'll take the GC engine over the OHC for pure off road. Good low end torque with the GC. I think with the 6 speed you can gear it just right for both worlds. I'm curious what gear ratio or what sprockets it does come with.

I would also be curious about the gear spacing in general. That always seems to be one area where the Chinese dual sports tend to be a bit wonky. Not much information out there about the real specs of the bike yet.

Given the power figures I have seen, I think this new "NBS" engine is setup to be decent torquey in the mid range too. Peak torque is at 5000RPM with peak power at 7500. That tells me this engine likely has an almost flat torque curve and nice linear horsepower.

Okay,
I'm told the bikes have arrived at Venom Motorsports Warehouse this morning but not on the website yet. If you want to order one you can call it in and they will take your order. Don't forget to use the Chinariders discount code. "JERRYHAWK250" and get $50 off. Help support one of our Forum sponsors.
