2500 miles on my hawk and no problems, not even a flat tire. Recently added an aftermarket exhaust for $128 and put a 16T on the front countershaft. The performance is very similar to my CRF in the first five gears. I'm pleased enough with the Hawk I'm going to sell my Honda CRF 250L to help with trip funding. I'm actually getting into riding at 55 MPH. Last project is to build side racks to help support my soft luggage then a quick trip to test things out. After that replace all bearings, bushings, source spare parts then "hasta la vista"

I just got a big man crush on your bike. It's way better than the Cougar thread.

You took off the rear handles. I didn't look yet but are they just frame connected and not part of the rear fender? I'm wondering because I hit my right knee when I get on the bike.

Four bolts hold it to the frame. I simply took a cutting wheel to mine to retain the mounts for the plastics and rear rack

Glad to see getting the speeds up. Don't delay thru that gap vicinity. Move out of that area asap after the crossing (don't like the sound of FARC). Will the crossing be on the Pacific? Did you post a proposed route?

No crossing on the Atlantic. Carti Panama to Cartagena Columbia. No real planned route, my only deadline is Carti for the crossing.

I carry 2-1.5L Primus bottles which affords an additional 45 miles of range. I avg 60 mpg so a 250 mile range is easily obtainable. If push comes to shove I'll fill a 1 gallon disposable jug.

Mark, one last thing.can you find or make out of stainless screen wire something to guard your headlight? cars, trucks and bikes throw a lot of stones on those "roads" down there (up here too for that matter).

Since it's not a sealed beam headlight I'm not to concerned about it. Nothing a little clear tape and spare bulb can't take care of. Come to think of it I've never had a headlight taken out by a stone in ove 50 years of riding. Now I've probably jinxed myself and that will be the nightmare of my trip.

Very perceptive of you kohburn and the answer is yes and yes! Kind of nice to have a place to stretch your legs out on. Doubt it will survive a hard off though. It was cheap as in no $$$$ no if its lost, no big deal.
