Today is "Keep Packing Up The House Day"...

In other news, the house went live on the MLS listing on Tuesday morning, we had two showings Tuesday, one showing yesterday, and two more showings today. We already have an above asking price offer, but the buyers tried to put a lot of riders and contingencies into the deal. We're going to take a pass on that one and see what the rest of this week and the weekend hold.

Geez, I wish I'd figured this out $100 ago. There seemed like there was no way to make the CVT fit right on the engine and bike. So, I bought a set of pillow blocks to do the CVT without the back plate.
First set, wrong size. Still have a minibike project to do, so I'll keep those.
Next set, right size, but double the price of the first set.
Bought a CCW wound spring for the driven pulley because I MIGHT need to run the pulley the opposite direction.
Bought longer bolts and an 1 x 1 1/4 spacer to get everything to line up on the plate. But, I end up having to mount the drive sprocket outboard of the driven pulley. That ain't going work.

So, today I'm working from my couch and stumble across a youtube vid about a guy mounting a 40 series CVT on a B&S Vanguard twin. His fit is more screwed up than mine. Where a normal driven pulley is mounted to the right of the business end of the shaft, he has to mount his to the left. The shaft on the B&S is shorter than what's on the diesel lump. He made it work.

In a nutshell, I have stuff lined up correctly, though I will need a 5/16 spacer for the driver. The sprocket is temporarily mounted inboard now(bought one to match the 'zuki sprocket). Gonna need a spacer for that one when it gets here.

Still need to get a chain, diesel fuel line, exhaust pipe, a muffler, an air filter of some sort, new-ish tires and some argon but I think I see some light at the end of the tunnel.

I sure hope it ain't a train.

I think I got it.

Getting it in the frame like this is going to be questionable so holding on to those larger pillow blocks.

I did something today.

Unfortunately, this like trying to shove 10 lbs of crap into a 5 lb bag. Somehow, this pulley needs to be on the other side of the frame tube.

Plans are afoot, gears are grinding.

Well crud. Going to have to pull the tubes I tacked in place and somehow move them forward at least an inch, if not more.

I guess tacked is better than fully welded. Cup half full.

Have you got a plan for the rattle Cheesy ?there is a hillbilly on YouTube that put one of those engines on a generator ,it’s working great ,but it sounds like a Chevy that just ran the entire Daytona 500 with zero oil in it ,the rattle is unbelievably bad .Pretty sure when you start it at your house ,I will hear it at mine .His channel is off grid homesteading with the skinners I think ,if you want to have a laugh .

Yeah. That was the one bright spot in the decision.

That little Yanmar will keep the skeeters away until it warms up. Mine's not as bad as that one but all little diesels sound like they are going to fly apart. The new guy we hired never heard one run until he was at Beaufort with me. He kept wanting us to shut the engine down before we blew it up. I just smiled and rolled on the throttle.

Sadly, I had to do math tonight. Specifically, geometry. At least, I think it was geometry. But HA HA, made you fit.

Drilled four new holes on the bolt circle to the right of the first holes. I had to dig out a caliper, a compass, masking tape, and, gasp, pencil and paper. Not only did I have to think, I had to remember formulas I haven't thought about since 1972 and...I had to write it out and...and...show my work. But, all four holes lined up. Love when that happens.

I'm still going to need to redo the tubes, but at least I finally have an idea of what needs to be done.

New tubes are bought and measurements taken. This time, I marked where I need to cut the tubes instead of 'Cut once and hope for the best'. This is where the tube notcher comes in. No bending this time.

The notcher won't be here until Tuesday and I will be traveling, again, the next two weeks. Maybe I'll get the main harness done this weekend now that I know where the engine is going to live. I think the ignition switch will be mounted on the side, Ala, Honda S90.

I got one of the two harnesses finished today. It's a 2 wire main power harness with Weatherpak plugs on both ends. I'll knock out the other harness tomorrow because I'll have all day. Will probably need it because it's a six wire job. Two alternator wires, 12v lights, starter solenoid, oil pressure switch, and ground. Because this is a diesel, I'll be tying the handlebar kill switch into the oil pressure switch wire.

As nothing is ever easy, my Wen 100 watt solder gun crapped out with three connectors to go. The tip split. I'm willing to bet there isn't 2 hours use on the damn thing. So, I remembered that I bought a complete, in the box, Weller 8100 solder gun kit at an antique store last summer for twelve bucks. I didn't even know if it worked. I plugged it in, pulled the trigger, and it's a soldering SOB. It's now my main electrical soldering tool in the garage. As bought it for display, I never really looked inside the box it came in. There are a couple extra tips, one new in the package. Some flux, a flux brush, one of those funky little knife tools that are more hindrance than help, and the original hand written receipt from 1965. The kit sold for $7.95. The new tip was $1.95. Ten cents tax made it an even ten bucks.

I ordered three new tips for the Wen but it has become my emergency back up unit.
