This followed me home from a bike swap today.

Early 70s Sears 3 speed built in Austria. So, either a Puch or an Austro-Daimler but more likely a Puch. All original, except for the brake pads. I gave $25 for it. Needs an overhaul, tires and a good cleaning but I bet there is less than 50 miles on it.

I also scored a pair of 50s/60s coaster brake rear wheels for almost nothing.

There was this there. Thankfully I came in the Audi and only had forty bucks on me.

How much did he want for the Whizzer? Looks vintage, as opposed to the more recent Taiwanese made Whizzers.

I knew I couldn't afford it so I didn't ask, but it sold. And it was a real Whizzer. Looks like it may have been a Whizzer built Ambassador instead of a kit.

I still regret selling mine.

Cheesy... on the whizzer, What's the history on that. Was it a purpose built motorcycle or a bicycle? About what year. I enjoy learning about the old motorcycles.

Whizzer started out as an 'Add On' kit prior to WWII. It proved popular enough after the war that Whizzer began to offer other accessories such as telescopic forks, generators, lights, and heavy duty wheels with drum brakes. They eventually began offering fully built bikes alongside their kits in 1947, the first being the Pacemaker. The top o' the line, I believe, was the Ambassador and it had all the bells and whistles. They also offered a well kitted 20" model. They went under in 1965.

I mistakenly identified the one in the photo as an Ambassador. It is, in fact, a well done install kit with the optional lights. I sorta drooled over the saddle bags.

Mine was an 'H' series engine kit(1947-ish)on a Rollfast frame with telescopic forks and heavy duty wheels without drum brakes. It had been ridden hard and put away wet before it got to me. It was missing a good part of the intermediate drive train and had been ridden a long time with a poorly adjusted headset. For so long that the cups just fell out of the frame. It did run, though. As my girls were little and needed to eat, I stripped the parts from the frame, sold those to a Whizzer collector, then scrapped the frame.

Great stuff here!

I love the input on the Whizzer particularly. Wonderful information, Black Bike.

Cheesy that's a wonderful looking bicycle. I bet it will be nice to ride and easy to restore. Good find. 26" wheels I assume?

Very cool and very original looking bike there, Weld.

I really like Anacortes too, BTW. Hope you had a good time there. :-)

The engine, as it were, is below your waist...

It's pretty nice, Doc. I got it for my cousins' wife. She wants to do the Lake Pepin 3 Speed Tour next year. And it is 26 x 1 3/8 or EA3.

Weld, that was a fifties Sturmey Archer shifter on what looked like a late fifties Schwinn. Possibly original to the bike.

Anacortes was really nice, but Deception Pass was extremely loud until about 10:30pm, with the fighter jets returning. That was every night. Of course, that's where we were camping.

The $89.00 price tag indicated it was an Apache. I really liked the lines.
