Well, No good place for an oil cooler on the hawk. Fender is 1/2" from frame and mounting it below fender would destroy it..............

Yes it would be pretty tough to mount it with the front fender as is. I will more than likely chop the high fender or remove it all together and mount a UFO superbike fender. Avery common KLR mod.

maybe one of these fenders would give more room and allow airflow

You could use a billet cooler mounted below the fender. They're pretty indestructible although not as efficient as the car radiator type.

Good find, a very good option if I can't figure out the original.

When is the trip? If it's months away, and I can plan this out, I am seriously thinking of buying a Hawk and joining you through Baja; not sure if you were going that way or east of the Sea of Cortez?

Tentatively leaving the 19th of September. Would like to go through Baja, I have a cousin who lives in Cabo. Would love the company!

Mounted up the oil cooler today very easy fit. A few mods to the front fender. The first was a couple of 1/2" spacers on the rear bolts to increase clearance. Also had to trim an inch or two off the fender where it rubs the wheel now under full compression. Any concerns about oil pressure on this engine are unwarranted. I fired it up disconnected from the cooler and before I could shut it down a good cup of oil gushed out the hose. Took it for a quick spin, no leaks.

one thing wolf, did you get a new valve cover for this mod or tap the original?
I might do this for the 100 plus days we have around here.

The kit was complete with valve cover, banjo bolts, hoses and all mounting hardware. As long as the bike is moving it's going to be cooler running engine. Perfect for my intended purpose of distance travel. overall is was a super easy inexpensive mod as most alterations are. This by far is the easiest and cheapest bike to work on that I have ever owned. May switch over to this fender to improve air flow.
