Zongshen, Sierra 200--Stator Problems.

My question is... have you experience any problems with the Stator and if so maybe you can enlightening me with some of the symptoms that this problem may cause, I have change the CDI Unit, put the carburetor out and clean it, I found no problem, check the choke and fuel cables, I check all the wiring and no problem there, replace battery electrolytes...

Some of the symptoms I'm experiencing are: turn the bike on by kick start, wont start with the ignition button (I hear a click, click, click when I try), after a minute of been On, the bike just shuts off and the front light just start dying till it just turn off :x

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE :P

assuming that your battery is good, the click, click noise you here is the starter solenoid. It is most likely defective.

I don't know but I think this could be the stator.

Try this.

Charge the battery and start the bike.

Use a voltmeter and measure the battery output.

Rev the engine. The battery output should increase to 13.8 volts from 12 or so. If it does not you have a charging problem, and the stator could be the culprit.

Welcome latouche!

I would be surprised if the stator could keep the bike running with a dead battery. What is the voltage of the battery at rest?

+1 on the stator mine went out and did the same thing. it would kick start then die after about 10 seconds or less.

do what fast doc said about checking voltage.

This has me thinking about my Yamaha XS400. It starts MUCH better on the kick starter than the electric start and has a weaker spark on the starter as well...

Welcome to these forums, Latouche; we are glad you joined us! Since you have replaced the CDI unit, I believe the stator is suspect. Because the Zongshen 200GY-2 motorcycle has an AC-CDI unit, all inputs to the CDI unit come from the stator. Therefore, the battery is not used to power the engine, and you can run the motorcycle with a dead battery.

You also might have a bad starter motor. When you push the starter button, measure the voltage from the starter motor to ground. If you get good voltage, the starter solenoid is good, and the starter motor itself is probably bad. I needed to replace the starter motor in my Zong at 28,000 miles on the odometer.

From someone who has been down this route before...

Step 1 remove the battery, check and top off with distilled water as needed.

Step 2 charge battery for 2 or 3 hours at no more than a 2 amps (a higher amp charger will eventually destroy the battery.)

Step 3 install the battery ensuring good contact at the terminals.

Step 4 start and run the engine with the seat off and check the voltage across the battery terminals. Voltage should increase with engine speed.

Step 5 if 13 volts or higher the battery is probably shot. If less than 13 volts it's not charging. Turn engine off. Proceed to step 6.

Step 6 unplug stator connector coming from left side engine cover. This is the one with three terminals inside up near the voltage regulator. Check resistance between each terminal, they should be exactly the same between each. Move the wires around as you do this in case there is a break in a wire, this will cause an intermittent condition indicating a problem. If resistance is unequal across terminals the stator is bad, if it's OK the voltage regulator is probably shot. To further verify the stator condition, check AC voltage across the stator terminals (two at a time) while the engine is running, voltage should be equal between each terminal. Also move the wires as you do this to check for an intermittent condition.

In my case the stator was bad. Well not actually the stator but the wire insulation inside the case leading to the stator were melted together causing a short between the stator wires. It appeared that the wire insulation was heated and crimped together at the factory possibly to ease installation, they just heated them too much. I purchased a replacement stator and the new one didn't have the melted insulation. Now all is well.

Check with Spud to see if he is still able to help with parts aquisition. If not contact Zongshen directly and be persistent and patient. Parts are still available.
