Air Filter

I have recently received and put together my Roketa DB-19 dirt bike, like it a lot.
The air filter is a cone looks like wire mesh with maybe foam inside, The chinese instructions say to wash it an oil it, do I do it as a unit it looks like it may be able to be taken apart.
Anyone weight in on this is it a good filter or can I upgrade it? I also have a chinese quad with a mesh filter with a foam sleeve over it. Any info about either of these will be appreciated

ther is always an upgrade and there is an expensive oil spay you can buy$$.but a light coating of 5w30 motor oil will work too. it depends on where you'll bee riding. dry and dusty is best to oil it but most of the time you won't. oil will also repell water to soom degree. best thing I think is to keep it clean and dry. hope this is helpful?

I run oiled foam filters on both my quads and bike as I'm in the land 'o dust.

All air filters should be oiled...Except Paper filters. I use PJ1 foam filter oil on foam & cheesecloth filters.
PJ1 goes on thin and lets you squeeze the oil thoroughly through the filter for a good application, it gets real sticky after it sets up to stop dirt from coming through the foam.
I also use the PJ1 foam filter oil on K&N and K&N styled filters that have a cheesecloth wrapping. I do this because the oil made for the cheesecloth filters will pull through the filter into the engine and leave the filter utterly useless. These engines are becoming more hi compression than they used to be and they just suck the standard {fiber filter oil/cheesecloth oil} right out of the cheesecloth style filters. The PJ1 foam filter oil stops most of this after it sets up, leaving a better stop for the dirt.

I used a 2 stage UNI filter on my Honda, seems to work well. Keeping it clean and oiled is very important. I used PJ1 as well, mostly because its easier to apply than light weight engine oil.

I'm not sure how true this is but I've read that K&N style filters are preferred for dryer climates and the foam filters are better in the wet. Can anyone confirm?
