Expense is what we pay for performance. There are plenty of places to ride where there isn't a speed trap. What kind of Commie state do you live in? Moped riders as revenue? 30mph on a 45mph street is just dangerous. Keeping up with traffic will keep you out of the hospital. I cant imagine the cops don't have anything better to do than write a ticket for a moped going too fast. If that is the case, I would move. Here the streets are filled with Zuma's, MB5's, YSR's, Vespa's, kitted Spree's 125 engines dropped in CT70 frames. etc. You need something just to stay with the pack. You paid half price for the China bike, at least make it keep up with the rest for a few bucks. I didn't say race around town btw. Get run over by a truck and see what the hospital bill is (if you live to see the bill) and compare that to a ticket for unregistered vehicle or uninsured. Keep in mind you have to see a judge for these alleged offences. Do you really think a judge is going to hit you that hard? Judges here at least, would most likely laugh at such an offence and figure you must have done something other than go too fast on a moped for cryin' out loud. Its a moped, ride it and have fun. If going fast is that big of a concern, maybe buy a pedal bike. Or is yours that slow you just want everyone to go slow?

With the price of gas, you are going to see a transition here in the Great States of the US. Look around you if you have never been past these borders. It is starting here now. Great to be part of it but don't hamper the progress. People in Europe have been paying $4 or more for gas for years. The streets a flooded with mopeds, bicycles and small motorcycles. Try to drive a car through the streets of France and see how fast you get around with 100 bikes in front of you. Maybe you have seen pictures? It is going to happen, bank on it. If you want to go slow, great, just don't push that on everyone and scare them with laws that were made for a country with an SUV in every driveway. Those days are gone. Eat or be eaten by the ones who did spend a few bucks to have a moped that is fast.

you act as if i agree with or wrote the law. that is not what i stated. in ct if you going over 30mph on a moped you can be cited. plan and simple it has nothing to do with what i think. it is up to the officer, who might stop you. i for one will not place myself in that position. anyone one who wants to is welcome to do so.

Its just an opinion, you have yours and I have mine. No malice intended. Didn't think you wrote the law, just disagreed with what may be interrupted as the only choice there is. Yes, it isn't in the books but half the bikes sold will not meet the laws so why follow them when no one else is? Its petty and maybe in some places enforced. If so, change is needed. Like moving or less drastic, follow the legislation path and make the changes. I have street-bikes and the cost of insurance, plates, getting the CY endorsement, etc is ridiculous. I have had my endorsement for 29 years and glad I don't have to do it again. Now is the time to promote all the little bikes on the road we can. Keep the people out of the trend if they are totally crazy and abusive of the laws but promote and encourage the rest. The guy wants to get up hills and out of harms way, kit the thing. Just be aware that there could be a slight price to pay if the rider brings attention to him/herself by having a loud bike or driving like a nut. Police are people just like us, Judges have mopeds to get around the marina. They are not strangers to seeing them and I just cant believe they would be looking for us on the mopeds. If so, all is lost as far as I am concerned.

just for the record i have had my endorsement for 48 years, have a house in dipolog city philippines and ride a dr650 suzuki here in ct. no i do not like the 30mph rule, and i also do not like the fact that it will take almost a riding season worth of gas savings to pay for all the various fees and taxes that follow the dr650. i will be moving in around 2 years maybe sooner if the government takes a bigger bite, to join the other expats already in the philippines escaping from all socialist countries.

See, there you have it. I guess moving isn't that drastic in your case. I would bet you wont take the Suzuki with you as they tax you per cc in the Philippines don't they? 650cc's is a big bike there correct? In 48 years you have seen much change I would imagine. I hope this current change can work for all of us and see more small displacement bikes on the road. Greener, cheaper, fun way to get around in my opinion. I hope your American money goes far, I know it will now that they have running water and everything there.

i think the dr is going with me, only the initial import tax is high. you have to submitt some paper work to find out the true tax, but it is based on the machines value. since my dr is a 96 i do not expect a huge tax. for the most part 200cc is a big machine in the philippines. however the roads are not designed for 70pmh in any case unless you have have a powerfull offroarder.
