and here's the problem. I've used the same yahoo mail account forever. It would be a major undertaking to go somewhere else.

I had the same problem, was with my provider for decades, but they data harvested and sold all my details so I had to move. I just bit the bullet and moved everything over to protonmail.com.
It wasn't hard as I had thought up in my head it was going to be but yes it does involved sending out notice to individuals your new address and if they write to it fine, if not, then they didn't care in the first place. For billing and businesses it was easy enough. Just log in and go to your profile and update. The hardest would be a few of my utilities billing because they were ancient non-friendly interfaces because they have no need to be easy to use unlike someone making money from people using their website like an Amazon.
