Found an interesting document:
http://www.gpxmotouk.com/uploads/8/0..._watermark.pdf

The watermark is annoying but it’s better than nothing.
It’s for the 172fmm-5, not the A3, but again better than nothing.

Edit to add: anyone know where the rev limiter kicks in?

FYI to everyone here, I had an enlightening chat with Mr. Joe Henner this morning.
I was asking about header options and asked about valve clearance.
He said flatly these are not Honda clone motors like in the hawk, and that’s the valve clearance for them is much, much tighter-.002 inch intake and exhaust, basically almost none.

Oh crap... I set them as I would on the Storm. But only drove 30 miles or so.

But I have to admit I am a little skeptical that significant damage will occur if the gaps are wide in the short term. Sure, there is a performance thing, but I can assure you, these "wide gaps" do NOT reduce performance significantly! This motor is fun.

It really is.
My home selling/moving has really interferes with my bike time but it is a ton of fun.
I don’t think any damage would occur, valves simply wouldn’t be fully open. Might get a bit hotter, but nothing like valves kissing piston.

So as far as my carb testing with the Mikuni I’m into the plug chop phase.
As it is she seems to run very well at 40 pilot, needle #4 slot, and 125 main.
#40 pilot at 1 5/8 turns out on air screw gives a brown insulator and good idle at 1400-1600 rpm according to the gauges, and is very cool at idle.

Needle is in #4 slot and seems to run well but I’ve got a hunch I’ll need to move it to #5. I’d rather run on the rich side anyway and I imagine it should being that it’s been in the high 90’s here. Lord knows when I’ll be able to actually take this thing out on the blacktop to test needle and main. We signed the contract to sell our house so sadly this will have to take the back burner (again) for a while.

Nothing that fits.
Someone else started a thread about going up to 14 teeth but they had to use a Dremel to make enough room for it to fit.

It does need a lower gear, Im thinking 44 to start off with but for training my son to ride the low gear is perfect.

Looking for a little help with the speedo setup, base Templar non X model. It only has a single button and pgm mode only has three circumference settings: 2182, 1795 & 1522. Can’t remember where but 2114 was the number for the 21 front. The unit appears to be a SHKALACAR https://www.amazon.com/Shkalacar-Mot...sal-Tachometer

Carb is spot on, thanks again Thumper. The front forks are as soft as me, easily bottoming on a 2 foot ledge with a wheelie to level. Swapped the fork oil today, old stuff was a little dark, right around 270cc on each tube. I added 325cc of 15w-Maxima and it’s better, but it’ll still bottom off a small jump and I’m 170 pounds.

So far I’m impressed with the little thing, the motor is great. I set both valves set to .08 for break in and it’s quiet. Did my three hot & cold cycles and beat the snot out of it, runs quiet and has more torque than I expected. 62 miles so far with the incorrect Speedo…

2182 for the 21”. Mine is the same way.
ETA-Just verified the speedometer/odometer at 2182.
The odometer was really close. Out here all the roads are set up on a huge grid in 1 mile blocks, and from intersection to intersection it was damned close, within a few hundred feet.
According to gps speedo is still 2-3mph off.

Funny thing is. I run .06mm on my Hawk. So, I would say it's close to the same lol.

Did you add roller rockers or did they come that way on the hawk too?

So question for the hive here-still learning about carb tuning.
Is there any harm to running a tad rich on the high end? I know gas mileage might suffer some but mechanically speaking what’s the worse that could happen?
My idle is pretty well tuned and my needle is in position 5 (bottom most setting). At steady 50% throttle, 7-8k rpm and hotter than hell ambient temps, the thing *just* starts to pop from running rich-all the way up accelerating to it, sounds fine and pulls great. It’s just rich enough to let you know you’re not running lean lol.

He doesn't mention a part number for the 14-Tooth Sprocket in his thread..
