I'll be damned. I have never laid eyes on that thing before in my life. That's pretty wild!

The magician has many great qualities to it, and the light weight is definitely a plus. The Hawk is heavy for a few reasons, primarily being it's frame is built much more in the Victorian style of big and beefy. The sacrifice of weight savings also means the Hawk and it's brothers are a bit more durable when it comes to being beat up off road. I have yet to see a broken frame or frame weld on a Hawk, even one that was jumped so hard it literally collapsed both wheels when it landed. The Magicians that I know of with cracked frame welds were all ridden off road fairly regularly like a Hawk would be. Magicians that aren't put through that type of riding never have an issue. That doesn't mean the Hawk isn't without it's own failings. The rims are made out of cheese and bend when you stare too hard at them. Because of their higher weight and large wheels, they are slower. etc. etc. At the end of the day, as long as you are realistic with either bike, they are good fun bikes to ride. Honestly, my one chief complaint about the magician is the lack of sprocket size choices. That is one area where the Hawk is king. With a 428 chain I can pick from 56 teeth to 36 teeth out back, and 13 to 17 up front. Pick a combo, any combo.

It's almost like I have been around these bikes for a few years and pay attention to things or something...

I've got a magician, I've modded it a fair bit and I'm actually in the process of porting the head atm.
issues I've had. Failed clutch cable (made me do a wheelie when it failed) That's it... lol I don't ride offroad much, but so far nothing else has broken or failed. I've done a ton of mods to it though. Changed both sprockets, carb, all the lights, put luggage on it, heated grips, camera, phone holder/charger, 12v socket, took out the old filter stuff and put in an additional battery and tracker. I really like mine so far. I feel like I'm a bit of an exception though, I'm a mechanic and could fix anything. I do wish it had a bigger gas tank, I get about 70 miles on my tank. I have a side 1.3g tank so I have about 140 miles of range before needed to stop for gas. It vibrates quite a bit. I swapped my stock tires for street tires and that helped with my stability/vibration. I also added some rubber between my mounts and the frame to reduce vibrations. |
