Problems with Red Fox Warranty

I knew exactly what I was getting into buying a bike online, hopefully this will be my only problem...My throttle cable is too long. Even with the barrel nut adjuster all the way out the throttle turns about 3/4" of an inch before the slack is taken up and it begins to pull on the carb. In addition to the 1/4" cable showing the barrel nut is not threaded to the end so the threaded tube would need to be 1/2" longer just to get to the threads inside the barrel adjuster nut plus 1/8" to get two threads started. I've sent RF pics and now they want me to remove the entire cable from the bike, disassembling it from the carb, and lay a tape next to it. And any person you talk to at RF is working from home I was just told from the sales line. There is no "office", probably just orders forwarded to some warehouse for shipping. . Any thoughts from the board?

Before you remove the cable i would take apart the throttle housing and see it the throttle tube has a second cable slot. On one of my bikes there were two slots. Hopefully you can move it to the second slot to take up the slack. Also check to see if there is an intermediate adjuster somewhere in the middle of the cable.

Thanks for the thoughts and I just checked both. The cable is continuous from throttle to carb, no intermediate adjustment. Rotax uses this same design carb and they have an adjusting nut on the carb end also. And there is no second place in the handle assembly to connect that end of the cable...But I have found a solution. This is an M6 brake adjusting nut from a bicycle shop. It is the same thread as the cable adjusting nut and screws right into it. It is slotted on the side so it goes right over the cable. The big end is not threaded and goes over the threads on the end of the tube. Because the pull is linear it doesn't move any but you could put a bit of Permatex there to lock it to the tube without permanently fastening it. This nut takes up the slack in the line while still allowing adjustment as the cable stretches over its life...In addition to red fox I also emailed Dong Fang and think I've received an email back. I'm getting emails from "Jimmy at customer service", redfox? and also from someone named Cherry Wang, who I hope is at DF. I sent her pics also and she said someone would be calling me today. If I've got a cable that is too long from this June 2020 produced bike, that I just received, I would guess all in that production run also do.

If you are in contact with someone with DF then I'm sure it will be taken care of. They are one of the few distributors that care about the customer. Hope they fix you up.

Got a call from red fox today, good for them! Said they will ship me the cable without me disassembling the bike and measuring the old cable first, also good! Can anybody see a reason for so much play in the throttle, other than the cable too long, or its housing too short?...And he also said mine is the only complaint they've ever received on a too long cable. But I'm wondering if my email and pictures direct to DF caught someone's attention, and DF knows they had a problem run of cables back in early 2020.

Possibly whichever company supplies cables to them sent them the wrong batch; or they tried to make do with what they had available at the time on the production floor.

Got notification cable is on order. Delivery is in 30 to 90 days. Glad it's not an important part.

My new cable showed up yesterday. Not going to install it immediately as my repair is working fine. Does the gas tank come off by removing the big bolt at the rear and sliding the tank backwards?
