Head Scratching Shock Adjustment

Guys this might be a silly question but I would like to lower my shock by about 1CH and was wondering what size spanner wrench I should order? Are they universal, I have heard nightmares of people damaging their shock with long screwdrivers and hammers trying to make adjustments. I am super OCD and overthink things I have not done before, I just want to make sure I have the right tool for the job.

I have the Brozz

I was looking at this spanner wrench because it's price is reasonable to me. Could anyone tell me if it would work?

I could be wrong, but I don't think that will lower your shock.

As I understand the adjustment notches just adjust the pre-load for heavier or lighter riders and loads.

It does manipulate the static ride height because there is always a load on the shock and when the spring rate is within the correct range for the application, it doesnt sit there with the shock fully extended. The weightof the bike alone has an affect on the ride height depending on where the coil is adjusted, as long as the spring isnt too stiff for the application. In other words the weight of the bike in relation to preload is what changes the static height.

Any C spanner kit will work

It can affect static ride height, but is not the right method for adjusting height when the desire is to raise or lower the bike. The whole point of the preload adjustment is to set rider sag (combined weight of the rider, equipment, and static sag) so the suspension has the correct amount of compression travel as well as some available droop travel as well. Actual changes in relative ride height are achieved through physical alterations in mount position or shock length itself.

I am just hoping to lower by half an inch, was hoping an adjustment would do it, and not mean buying another shock. or thinner seat etc

Before you do anhthing I would get a feel for where your rider sag currently is. Might need a buddy to help you measure it, but on these bikes you would be alright in the 2.5 ro 3 inch range.


If you arent actually getting that far down, then good news for you. If you are already there or past that point then I wouldn't recommend it personally.

Dude. Dont be afraid to play with the adjustment. The sky will not fall if you test different settings on your suspension.

While I do agree that people shouldn't be afraid to make adjustments. Knowing how and why those adjustments are made is more important than simply willy nilly turning a spanner.

I just adjusted my tubes to 5psi each, that lowered me

For real though, thank you guys. Now I know what the shock adjustment is actually meant for.

I am a medium guy, so the shock is not too stiff or too soft rider sag about 2.5

I will give it some time to wear and tear but for now I am happy with that aspect of it.

As far as lowering the height 1ch, I just decided to try some hiking boots on it and the extra tread made up the difference. It is actually a perfect snug fit.


on another note if I had to rejoin this forum my name would be rider_sag it sounds awesome

Mine "settled" and lowered a little after I rode it awhile.
After that I say, go ahead and adjust away. Write down how many threads are showing before you start. If it starts handling bad or something, you'll know where to return it back to stock.
