Street Legal Pit Bike in Texas! Plating My Daughters Apollo DB35
I just received the license plate for my daughters Pit Bike! It's all legit and street legal now! Now she can ride all the county dirt roads in Texas with me! She is very happy!
I thought I would share the process in case anyone else is interested in plating their pit bike. Here's the DPS inspection requirements for motorcycles: https://www.dps.texas.gov/rsd/vi/ins...ncriteria.aspx Information on Titling a dirt bike for street use: https://content.govdelivery.com/atta...tle_Manual.pdf To make her bike street legal, we went with the Tusk Lighting kit, added a new stator with a lighting coil, a rectifier so she can power the lights off the bike and a battery that can be charged by the the stator. Here is a good video on installing the stator: We wired the lighting kit and battery to the ignition switch so everything is turned on/off when she turns the ignition switch on/off. Everything worked great! Only issue is when idling the stator does not generate enough power for the lights as they are dim and flicker. The battery smoothed that out. The mirror that came with the Tusk kit is also useless for actual use. I did buy separate folding mirrors and installed those on the bike. After her and I installed everything on her Bike, I went motorcycle dealer that sold me the bike and get a MCO (Manufacturer Certificate of Origin) needed to title and registered the bike. Got liability insurance for the bike from Geico, they seemed to be the lowest and took the bike to Kwik Kar for inspection. Kwik Kar was great! Didn't even charge me! When I went to get the MCO from the dealer, they said that since they sold me the bike they can get the bike registered and titled for me which was great! I figured that would be easier then going down to the Tax office and trying to explain everything to them that I needed. I gave them the MCO, proof of insurance, Bill of Sales, and pass inspection document, paid them $150 for Title and registration and they gave me a temporary plate. A few weeks later we received the actual permeant plate. We should receive the title shortly from the Tax office. Here is the list of parts to make her bike street legal and pictures of her bike. Hope someone finds this information useful! Feel free to PM me if you have questions.
