New RX3 owner, question about top case mount hardware
I've read so many threads here, and want to thank everyone for all the education it provided, and really confirmed my desire to get one. My brother just picked up mine in Los Angeles, near where he lives, and I'm in Phoenix, AZ. So I'll go pick it up next week hopefully. It's a 2016, 11k miles on the odometer but marked as "not actual miles." It has a few options like the heated grips, power outlets, and upgraded cases. It's missing the original small cases. This was the second owner and he never got them.
Anyway my question is about the top case mounts, which are broken. Is this something you can typically just go buy from CSC? I figured I'd go there when I pick it up. Or are there some generic replacements? About me... 53, life-long rider (mostly sport bikes), tech nerd by love and career, woodworker (I have a pretty full shop), and Jeeper. For some reason, I haven't owned a dual sport in the six years that I've lived at the edge of open desert. Not sure why. |

As far as I know CSC does not offer a better replacement for those plastic buttons. You might call Steve at CSC to see if they will make up a metal replacement part and then offer it for sale. CSC has a sister business making aftermarket parts so this would be a simple job on a lathe.
I made up a set out of aluminum after reading about Danimal losing his top case due to the plastic parts failing. Peter Y. |

My fix
Mine broke also. Repaired by getting longer bolts and then a stack of washers that will fit in the narrow part of the top plate and then a bigger fender washer that will fit through the large part of the top plate. Finally it's held together with a nylon lock nut. I used a dremel to smooth out what was left of the plastic where it snapped. After assembling I put hot melt glue over it so it wouldn't scratch the floor when I set it down.

Here are the bags - I will have to edit my description to "water resistant"
The bags do not have waterproof zippers. They are a good material and made to pack easily in the RX3 Tourfella boxes, as you can see in the photo they have a few extra pockets and a side panel area and when nicely stuffed full will slip into the boxes without too much fuss. For easy carrying and removal there are hand straps as well as a shoulder strap. Easy to pack being a "clam opening" design so the 2 halves open up totally for easy packing. As I said in another thread, I love the bags. The aluminum pins for the top case solve the problem with the broken plastic ones, but are a pain to line up and put on/remove the top case.
I got the straps for the cases also. Other than saying they seem well made, I'm not sure they will be useful for my needs. But worth the try. |

Exactly my thought. I like to try things and see how they work out. Worst that can happen is a small loss when I sell them. I've got one on the top case now, and will see if that's useful. Hard to plan ahead as I've never owned an adventure bike. Just street bikes with luggage, or dirt bikes without.
