Coolster 125
How tight should the chain be. There is zero slack and the nut adjustment would not help. Do the chains loosen over time. I feel like I could play a note like a guitar string.

There should be a little bit at least. Did the bike come with a manual? if so, there is usually some info about the chain slack. Can you take a few pictures of the rear axle?

It did not come with a manual I will upload some pictures later. I've ridden it and my kids have also I just don't want to cause some damage. This things sounds pretty good for a 125. It rips with my big butt also.

yes loosen the chain. Go to youtube and look up "motorcycle chain adjustment" The chain should stretch and loosen up, but it being that tight is NO GOOD for the engine at all.

The tightest point of the chain will be when the rear axle, the swing arm pivot bolt and the center of the countershaft sprocket are all in a straight line. You may never compress the suspension that far, but it will still be the tightest point in suspension travel. If you support the bike/quad on a jackstand and then remove the rear shock, you can then raise or lower the rear axle with a scissor jack until all three points are in line.
At that point, the chain should be taut without being tight. Everywhere else in the range will be safe. Once you have the chain adjusted, put the shock back on and put the wheels back on the ground. Measure the unloaded deflection of the chain and write it down for future reference. It could be that the factory chain is simply too short. I encourage you to remedy that before riding it anymore.

You may just want to upgrade the chain and get a longer one. You could try removing one of the nuts on the adjuster and see if it gives you some slack.
