X2. Time to start quantifying results.

Well fine then, I guess that settles it (not complaining). Most likely going to be the weekend after this one, hopefully on the 21st. I gotta call them and see what is open.

It's about damn time! lol. At 500 mile it's pretty much broke in. I glad you're doing what I wanted to do. I figured there be someone else on here into seeing how much you can get out of these bikes. I think everything I touch that has a motor in it has been tinkered with one way or another weather it was slapping a supercharger, turbo or just performance tuning. Can't wait to see before and after results. Hi, my name is Jerry. I'm a power junkie.

I'm hoping this becomes an epic thread, whereby Dan loses all control. I'm hoping for a turbo setup.

LOL believe me, that thought has crossed my mind. I think Dan and I were twins separated at birth 20 years apart.

Even twins can be a little bit different though. While I do share a passion for wanting to do an EFI setup, I don't want to do anything beyond the basic hot rodder power ups. Since I can't do a cam, I have to stick with porting, fueling, exhaust, and maybe a small bump in compression. I would rather spend the money of a turbo setup going for a bore and stroke approach and try to find a 270cc variant of this engine, or make one of the OHC water cooled motors work somehow. Like the unit found in the Pitster Pro LXR250 (plus a 6spd transmission would be nice).

No, my power-bike bug that will eat my finances is my slow approach to supercharging my goldwing, because the only thing better than riding on a Nimitz class destroyer, is to give it even more power.

I think my next big purchase for this bike has been decided for me on my ride home tonight. I am pretty sure I managed to bottom out the rear suspension. Admittedly, I was going 50mph and it was a pretty good sized hump over the little bridge I crossed, but by no means did I get anywhere near airborne or some other such nonsense. The rear shocks progressive spring rate and dampening leave a lot to be desired in my eyes. It's not terrible, but without any preload adjustment, there is too much sag. They rate these bikes to have a 330-350lb capacity, and while I am a big guy, I could toss my touring bags on the bike with myself and still not approach that max weight, and I think it would struggle.

Thus, this leaves me with trying to find a good option for a rear shock that still has the travel, but with at least preload adjustment. I have 4 possibilities in mind in order of price.

First. It's 7mm shorter than the Hawk unit, so a minimal lowering in rear ride height. No rebound adjustment, just preload. Less than 60 bucks shipped though, and a linear spring. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/BSE-...460.0.0.MKyonn

Next. Another Aliexpress found product. Specifically the 325mm unit - 5mm longer than stock. Kind of a steep price for what it is, about double the price of the first one, and who knows how well the rebound adjustment actually works, or if it will last at all. It will also require making some spacers for the lower shock mount for sure. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/KEOG...69b0c700&tpp=1

Third option, one I have considered a lot, is a TT250 unit. Only has preload adjustment, but unlike the previous 2 options it will likely bolt up to the Hawk and work without any rear kerfuffle. Its about $70 more than the previous shock I linked at $188 Though.

Fourth option, and obviously the best option, but also the most expensive, is a custom made shock through YSS. A Z302 TR unit for the price of $279. Spring rates, mounting eyelets are pretty much whatever I tell them. 60 position rebound adjustment, and I can order it in just about any length I want from 240-360mm. I just ain't sure if I want to invest that much into it either.

It's not a huge deal, because outside of normal me only riding the rear does fine. I never felt out of control at all. What I would love to find is more specific information on the TT250 rear shock length, because for the price it seems like the best option. I mainly want that preload adjustability. Obviously rebound adjustability would be nice, but not a prerequisite either. I may just say screw it and try the first linked one since it's so cheap.

I managed to bottom out the rear shock a few times Sunday on a washboard section of trails. I only weigh 180. Front did a great job since I changed the fork oil. I would like to change out to a better rear shock myself. It great for the street and light trails but that is it's limit. For the price the 1st option would work for me. I don't mind it being a little lower as long as it doesn't bottom out and not too stiff. I'll let you be the test dummy and see how it works out lol . The TT250 would be my next choice. I was also looking at this one. https://www.amazon.com/Liquor-Univer...orcycle+shocks

Dan, there are other options for a better shock: http://www.chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=726

The issue with posts like that, while they have some information, the images worth a thousand words to help the explanations make sense are all buggered thanks to Photobucket. Plus, I would prefer a bolt in solution over a cut and weld approach.

That thought has crossed my mind a few times lately. Since the CG motor is available in a 270cc version (referred to as 300cc on Taobao), there is also a cam that is reported to be for that engine. Is it the same profile as your 230? Who knows. It might be worth ordering to measure and find out for sure. https://world.taobao.com/item/535589....zOLH4x#detail
