Changing to a 17t front, 44t rear sprocket - affect on chain length?

On a 2016 Hawk 250, will changing to a 17 front, 44 rear sprocket affect the chain length?

You should be okay, You might have to remove one link.

Those that have done the 17/45 swap didn't have to change the length.

I just did the 17/45 on my Hawk and used a 130 link chain, which I believe is the same as the stock chain. There shouldn't be a need to remove a link, and I would recommend against it. When setting the chain tension on a Hawk, set it on the loose side. The Hawk's rear arm geometry at full droop actually causes the chain to get tighter through the first inch or so of it's arc of travel and then goes loose again.

As said, with a 44 rear, you may have to remove 1 link. Put the chain on first and see how much adjustment range you have. Usuallly +/- 1 tooth won't require removing a link, but it just depends.

I am currently running a 17/45 setup on my TT 250 and find that 128 links is the perfect fit.

For the record, you always have to remove 2 links because the master link is an outer style link and won't hook up (well) to another outer link. That's why there are no odd number link chains
