Speaking of coolant - how hot does your bike run?

With Spud's post on disappearing coolant, I was wondering, how hot do your bikes tend to run? This weekend mine was jumping between 3 & 4 bars, and the coolant reservoir bottle is filled midway between the low and high levels... it is hot where I live tho (desert southwest)...but was wondering if this is "normal"

Yes, your cooling system is operating normally.

Well thank goodness for that
I have no frame of reference, so always glad when you all confirm that nothing is amiss

After warming up, mine stays at 2-3 bars. Never seen it go up to 4, but we've had a fairly mild summer for Colorado.

2-3 for me but if I'm out doing 60mph on the freeway all day it can shoot up to 4 especially in this hot weather. The motor doesn't seem to act any differently when hotter. Coolant does lower in the overflow bottle some so I just keep an eye on it and have plenty of time to fill it as it "evaporates" ???? rj

Here in the south San Francisco bay area, I've been able to watch the temp as influenced by the weather at highway speed.

Temps in 70F 2-3
80F 3 with brief 4 while at a red light
90F 4 with drop to 3 while coasting down from freeway speed

I'm also in the desert and my temp guage consistently stays at 4 bars on hot days.

My gauge this morning after sitting all night and an outside temp of 60 degrees
Shows 2 bars already when I turn it on There are a total of 5 bars counting the bottom C bar and the top H bar.Mine will run within 4 bars on a hot day (98 degrees)even while running down the hi way at an indicated 70.
I consistently run within 1 bar of being hot on a hot day.On a downhill run or when I back off the throttle it can dip back in the 3 bar range.
