This WR is still factory restricted..
3/4 throttle stop & the CDI has 2 maps in it
WR & YZ still on the WR map , apparantly theres
gray wire from the CDI to earth you disconect
to switch to the YZ map... remove the baffle in the pipe..
resticted specs say 15hp 7,500rpm
totaly un-corked 32hp 13,000rpm ..

i will know in 3 weeks if it's mine or not...

I just upgraded my intakes to stainless steel after i blew up the roller in the head. I did a piston change as well and found my top end was in really good condition otherwise. I don't know about making it 15,000 miles on a single ring piston with a 3/4 inch skirt though!

How was the roller damaged?

I know what you mean about the two-ring piston with the short skirt. I'm not predicting anything, merely hoping.

Some of the CRF450 owners are installing a TRX450, 3-ring piston in their bikes.

thats a better looking piston but still a short skirt..

the WR250R has a long piston uses the same bore & stroke
as the WR250f but is only a 4 valve motor... don't think
you could machine a 5th valve pocket in the piston...
with the right valves / piston / compression ratio theres no
reason you couldn't make the motor last a lot longer.

I looked at the WR250R but they are a 2008 onwards model
and hold there prise... the WR250f takes a rekluse clutch..

edit.... just found this for a WR250F.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/350298522813...#ht_1134wt_932
full skirt 3 ring piston ... high compresion ,but a few base gaskets will sort that..

This afternoon I installed a Durelle Racing Gel Seat on my CRF250X. I purchased a Harbor Freight pneumatic stapler for the job, and when it worked, it worked well.

After finishing the installation, I took the bike for a 31-mile ride to test the saddle's comfort. This saddle is definitely more comfortable than the stock saddle, and the saddle height is also definitely lower.

Here's how the saddle looks mounted on my CRF250X.

I buy a few things from Harbor Freight, and I have found some good bargains there. However, I will be returning the HF pneumatic stapler. It easily drove the staples into the seat pan, but it frequently jammed. Also, the magazine would frequently pop open, and drop all the staples out of the gun. Nevertheless, it finished the job, and was still easier to use than a hand stapler. Also, Harbor Freight has a good return policy.

My first impressions of the Durelle Racing Gel Seat are very favorable, and I think it was a good purchase. As I acquire more miles in the saddle, I will report my further impressions regarding this product.

It looks great! So, you delete the foam and use a gel pad instead?

Thank you, Weld.

The Durelle Racing Gel Seat is about 1-inch wider, and 1-inch lower than the stock saddle. Carving away foam reduces the saddle height, and inserting a gel pad in the foam preserves riding comfort. The Gel Seat comes with a new seat cover. You remove your old seat cover and foam from the seat pan. Then you install the gel seat and the new cover.

I followed the instructions in this video to install my gel seat.

I'm not riding my CRF250X as an adventure bike. I'm using it as a dirt bike, which I ride to the trails and back. I'm riding my Zong as a dual sport bike on the less challenging trails. I'm riding my XR650L as an adventure bike for longer rides when more speed is needed.

I'm hoping my CRF250X will prove to be very reliable with its stainless steel valves. However, I'm not making any predictions. So far, I have recorded about 670 miles on my Trail Tech Vapor. I probably rode another 100 miles before I installed my Trail Tech computer.

I went for a 100-mile ride yesterday. My CRF250X starts right up, whether the engine is hot, cold, or flooded after dropping it on the trail. I'm not burning any oil, and the engine runs great!

I need to rebuild the top end of the engine in my air cooled, dual sport bikes about every 30,000 miles. If I can get 15,000 miles between top end rebuilds on my water cooled CRF250X, I will be very happy. The bike performs so well, I am willing to rebuild it twice as often as my other bikes.

I am running the stock gearing, which is a 14T/53T sprocket combination. When riding on the street, I keep the engine under 7,500 rpms. The engine usually runs at 4,000-6,500 rpms on the trail. This CRF250X engine can turn at 12,500 rpms.

I will replace the piston after the bike begins to burn a lot of oil. I'm hoping the stainless steel valves will last a very long time.
I bet it will hold up well.

The differences between the 'X' and the 'R' seem subtle but are important. Especially with the SS valves you have.

FWIW I bought my YZ400F with maybe 30 hours on it. I have added about 120 to that, and 99% of those have been off road, and many of those demanding (sand dunes, paddle tire etc.)

So, 150 hours total.

I have checked the valves 2 or 3 times so far including about 6 hours ago. It has required not so much as an adjustment. It burns no oil and has all the compression and power of a new bike.

With the way you take care of it, and your riding style, your bike will hold up fine.

Thats amazing. More than double the power uncorked?

Interesting.

I don't know what the YZ400F's piston looks like but it has a 5 valve head with stainless steel valves. I think Yamaha changed to titanium valves for the 426.

Yesterday I tested my new, Durelle Racing Gel Seat. I rode my CRF250X for 30 miles on pavement to the trail head, and the saddle was comfortable! Without stopping to rest my butt, I headed onto the trail. The reduced saddle height also helped a lot while riding the trail.

I'm very glad I bought this saddle! Riding for extended miles on pavement is now much more bearable, and the lower saddle height greatly facilitates crawling through boulder stewn terrain.
