Woodpecker Nightmare

I know I wrote about this a while back but I THOUGHT I had it under control. :evil:

After I filled the 100+ holes in late Spring, sanded, stained and finished the upstairs siding....I kept a keen eye on the peckers and my siding all summer. It looked like they'd basically given up. I'd go up and inspect....an occasional attempt but nothing severe or serious.....then, once the weather started cooling a few weeks ago....they went to town on me! :x
In a mere two weeks they started swiss cheesing my upstairs siding again!
I'd be laying in bed on a Saturday morning to hear the banging...to run outside in my underwear flailing a pellet gun, just to watch them fly off laughing! :evil: GRRRRRRR......... Then, we'd start to hear on the inside, my walls being filled with tumbling acorns....... :roll:

So, last weekend, I stepped up the battle. Luckily, they only reopened about half the holes so I spray foamed them.....and put up bird netting.

If this doesn't work....I'm residing it next Spring with masonry-type siding. Give those suckers a headache they'll never forget! :twisted:

Feathered bastards have a whole freaking mountain range filled with trees and they screw up your house? :evil:

The net is not much to look at but I bet it will work. :wink:

Hope Woody freezes to death this winter. Global Warming should help.

Having to put up netting is akin to bars on the window. It sucks to have to do it to protect your property. I like the masonry idea.

I'm sorry to hear of the woodpecker attack. :( I also vote for the masonry siding, otherwise I fear you will undoubtedly wage a losing battle with Mother Nature. :roll:

Wow...not sure why the pic was so big. I shrunk it in photobucket.

Actually....the netting is not bad. I took an upclose, sideways pic so it showed up, but when you're on ground level, unless you know to look for it, you don't really notice, so let's hope this does the job. :wink:

As Spud said....it's a "2LZ vs Mother Nature" thing.....especially since the standing dead Black Oaks on my property I've been wacking to fire wood, are also part of their graineries. Not only am I eliminating their "big, square tree" as a grainery but also dropping, cutting and splitting their backstock.....which puts more pressure on my house.

The peckers will either adapt (which nature does) or move to a new location.
Unfortunately, for the peckers, I need firewood for heat and I need my upper floor to sleep in. :roll:
