Had some fun at Jerry's with Linda yesterday. He had a 50 BMG to play with. Those of you in California and Canada wouldn't understand :wink: , but I bet Brother Spud knows all about these cannons.

This one is a very long range sniper unit. A skilled shooter can elimanate a man sized target every time fro 1/2-3/4 mile away, and with good conditions up to a mile. It cana also stop a Jeep, Hummer, or similar small sized military vehichles. 8)

The concussion is dramatic. It feels like getting hit on the nose with a basketball thrown hard at you 8O . It also knocks the wing out of your chest like slipping on the ice and falling on your back. Quite unpleasant but somehow stimulating...

Linda did not shoot the 50, but she had fun with my .22 Henry Repeating Rifle, in lever action. Sweet little gun. Everyone loves it and it is very accurate.

Included also are a couple pics of Jerry on his 90cc Q Link ATV. He uses this to ride out to the 500 yard target to check bullet impact and sight in the rifles.

We were shooting South, into the Horse Heaven Hills.

Also towards Mexico, I suppose... :roll:

God I do love our remaining freedoms. :P

I think that our long gun registry will be scrapped, so we could probably get away with similar firearms, but I can't imagine where you'd find one.

This one was purchaced form the local Ranch and Home store. They sell everything from Carharts to tractor parts.

Most of the local gun shops and at least two Ace Hardware stores have similar units. Bring your checkbook though. This particular unit, and Leupold scope, retailed for $6,000! 8O

Then the ammo is about $4/bang...

I'll stick with 30-06 and 8mm Mauser and 7.62X54 and 500 Magum as my largest calibers. :wink:

While you cannot buy a weapon like that at Canadian Tire, Canada has produced some excellent snipers. For a while we held the record for longest kill, in March of 2002 Corporal Arron Perry killed a Taliban fighter from 2,310 meters away (that's 2,526 yards) then that was topped by another canadian who if I am not mistaken is now a city police officer up in Edmonton. Corporal Rob Furlong killed a Taliban fighter from 2,430 meters (2,657 yards). In fact I believe that these guys were supporting American troops at the time early in the Afghan war. Now the record is held by Craig Harrison of the UK 2,475 (2,707 yards). Incredible, it takes me approximately 20 minutes to run that far.

Cool and wonderful history, McKonker. I think I learned about some of that from a sniper program on the History Channel.

I am not in favor of war, but I am glad we are on the same side as the United States! The above illustrates the nature of the cooperation of our two great countries. There is no other country that I would want to live next to...you Americans lead the way in so many areas. My family has always flown the american flag along side ours, and every time I have had the pleasure of traveling to the States I have always found Americans to be friendly and helpful, even in places like New York! '

I'm not surprised Miss Linda preferred the recoil of your .22 caliber rifle to the .50 caliber BMG!

I recently returned from a nice ride to Grand Teton, and Yellowstone National Parks; I will post a ride report in the next few days.
