The price of oil is devastating to the Alberta economy, but gas in our area (which is notoriously the highest in Canada) has dropped to $0.92/litre, or about $2.60 US/gallon. It wasn't that long ago that we were near $2.00/litre, or $5.75 US/gallon. I admit I'm enjoying the new low fuel price.

I'm encouraged by the terrific examples of humanity in my area. There is a movement called "care mongering", which focuses on acts of kindness to others. Folks have been buying groceries for neighbours and just generally being good people.
