RX3 Use of Part

Hi,

I'm trying to familiarize myself with the RX3 and I'm not sure what the use of this part is:

Can someone please let me know what this part is for/if it's missing a cover or piece? Seems strange that it's free floating/not attached to anything. Thanks!
