i m not surprised, my honda does the same :-) if you geared her higher, you won t have acceleration, if you gear her too low she ll scream sooner. but there is the gearing at which the motor works best and delivers the most power. one tooth less or more on the front can make a difference for cruising and shifting. annoying having to shift all the time around 60 km/h, the standard speed limit on major urban roads in australia. the stock gearing on the suzuki dr 400 is a good example for that. not sure whether our motor is similar to the CRF 230, but it should be close enough:

i prefer a lower gearing on those small bikes and get up to 80 really quickly and then leave it at that.
