trailer re-do

so I figure that wile I have the extra coin it is time to redo the deck on the trailer and it seemed like a good day to start on it.

trailer before tearing the triple layer plywood deck off....this was completely saturated with water all the way through.

was planning on cutting the V front off but decided to keep it on as a deflector.

tore off the top layer and found a new life form developing a society within

here is the frame stripped down cut off all the old stove bolts and gave it a quick scrape with the grinder

going to scrape it a bit more to get scale off then tremclad clean over the steel and lay in some good decking with tie downs inserted flush with the deck.

I hope I have an antibiotic that kills that mutant fungus in case God forbid it's growing in your brain right now! 8O

You're off to a good start.

Perhaps you can use a plastic/synthetic 'lumber' that will be impervious to the elements, like Trex? More expensive but will never need attention...

Midlife and I met for coffee tonight, and I shared with him that I used copper sulfate on the treated plywood on my trailer, and that was nine years ago. It could use another coat, but it has held up well.

Midlife, while it's apart, I recommend that you consider moving the axle back; it looks like it's in the middle right now. Optimal placement is 60% back from the front of the deck. I'll be happy to stick it together for you, since we're gonna be doing the brackets anyway. You'll appreciate how it follows you on the highway.

Do you have a 220 dryer outlet anywhere near your driveway? If not, we'd have to drag it to my place.

no sorry we don't but I do not have a problem dragging it to your place...It is all legal and no rules for not having a deck on it

You could go expanded mesh deck like my trailer and when you wash the quad after riding the mud drips strainght off to the ground. Makes cleanup at a u spray car wash easier.

good idea but I will be buying ramps for side loading and will be easy to off load the atv's at the car wash to rinse them off as well as the deck.

I actually purchased the trailer that I have been using for the last 3 years. It needs a coat of paint, but all the important stuff has been redone.

Looks like yours is solid yet.

Got to cleaning some of it today.....doing small sections so that I do not get caught off guard by the rain that we can and do get here on the west coast tucked into the mountains.

found this nice disk that is made for rust and paint and it seems to do the trick very well still lots of it left after going at this for a few hrs.

regy papers say blue and I don't like the dark blue so it is this

added a cheap but efective front stand wheel thingy
just attached it for now so I can get under the frame better but will take it off when the drawbar is cleaned and painted.

That sure is a cheery blue!

Do you have instructions that came with the trailer jack? Usually they state that the bolts and plate are only there to locate the jack, but that it should be welded for strength. Just make sure it's where you want it and we'll weld it on, if you like.
