Less than $28 for carb + jet kit

You read right, you can get a Keihin + slow jets + main jets for under $28 delivered. Even less if you don't mind waiting for jets but I didn't mind paying an extra $4 for a US source.

Swap choke levers, put a #42 slow in it, #115 main, needle clip in the middle, idle mixture screw one turn out (sea level, opened up exhaust and air box), and you are good to go.

For reference, the slow jet the carb comes with appears to be a #38. The drill bit that snugly fits a #38 Keihin, snugly fits the unmarked one that comes with the carb.

If you are willing to take a chance, there are other PZ30 carbs on ebay for less, some even have the proper choke lever, but, I can't guarantee they take a real Keihin PZ30 slow jet.

So far I'm liking this carb every bit as much as the Mikuni I had on my Hawk, if I find there is no advantage to the Mikuni, I may sell it and a bunch of jets for $25. I have a thumb idle mixture screw on it.

That said, I bought jets from the same company you listed and also found them to be within the same specs as the factory Keihin jets, so they are hard to beat for the price. These same jets also work on the OKO/PWK flat slide copies.

On the subject of PZ30's, you also have the option to get the "pumper" version with an accelerator pump for on throttle enrichment. They are usually a tiny bit more expensive and require a dual ended throttle cable - which many of them come with.

There is nothing wrong with the PZ30 style carburetor. I think so many people are averse to it because it gets associated with the sealed stock units and their funky pilot jet. Operationally, the PZ30 and VM26 clones are identical. This is a cheaper alternative to the VM26 clone, and for the same price as one you get the carb and a bunch of jets.

In fact, the one you linked has a dual purpose choke lever. It looks like it can be cable OR lever operated, so for anybody wanting to do a choke cable so they don't have to reach though the bike, this would be a great option as well.

Yes, that is a great deal for what you are getting. The problem with Keihins has always been getting the jets for it. This solves that problem....ARH

I forgot to mention something else I wanted to point out. Many people that re-jet the stock PZ30 clones often run a Mikuni 110 main jet. If you use actual Keihin jets in a PZ30, the jet sizes you see are going to actually be different.

The orifice size equates to a different jet number between the two.

I.E. A 110 Mikuni main jet uses a #56 drill bit size. The equivalent Keihin jet size that uses the same 56 drill bit is a 125. A 105 Mikuni is equivalent to a 118 Keihin.

Megadan, is there a chart somewhere with these jet sizes in comparison? Since before I bought my Bashan, I've been mentally keeping track of elelvations in comparison to jet sizes, and what would work for me and how I wanted to build my bike. Now that it's almost done, I realized that the jetting that works best for my Keihin is way higher than those typically used in a Hawk or

What I experienced is exactly how you described, and I think that if there's a comparison chart for Mikuni/Keihin jet sizes available, it would help alleviate a lot of confusion for the newer guys buying Bashans that come stock with the Keihins........just my 2 cents.

I've tried 120/42, 110/40 and 105/38. It stumbles, runs like crap, and dies. Doesn't seem to matter where I have the idle adjustment screw. Not sure what else to do but put the stock carb back on.

Another option is a #78 or even #77 drill bit to the OEM slow jet. My set doesn't go large enough to do the fast jets so I'm not sure what size you need for that.

I ended up using a large round (Mikuni N100.604) 112.5 because there was no 112.5 in the kit and I had the N100.604. Any smaller and there is a power gain when letting off the throttle some so I know I have the perfect size jet. One day I will check plug color even though I know it is spot on. Yes, the 115 might run a little cooler, but, the 112.5 isn't too lean/hot and will get me better milage.

If these jets are true to form with the genuine ones, then a Keihin 128 is the same size as a 112.5 Mikuni. Both should be a 1.2mm orifice. I have always wondered if the chinese jets followed this same rule, or if they just stuck to Mikuni Jet sizing even with the Keihin clones.

I don't know if you have a way to measure them (or even have both on hand), but if you have a way to measure them compare the 110 Keihin jet to a 100 Mikuni They should both be a #58 micro bit.

The Sheng Wei carb does not have replaceable pilot jets. In order to change the pilot jet, you have to pull out the pilot jet tube, then tap in new threads in order to use Keihin pilot jets. With this carb kit, you get a Keihin clone and ten main jets and ten pilot jets...ARH

correct, and the tap will cost almost as much as the Keihin so there's no point in doing it.

Thanks, Megadan, for the info on jet sizes. Hopefully, I'll have the right size drill bits to see what sizes actually came in the kit before I return the jet kit due to the missized 115. Drill bits are coming Amazon Prime so should be here Monday if not Sunday.
