25% tariff on China bikes

Trump has proposed a 25% tariff on motorcycles from China. Now would be a good time to buy.

True. If you want a china bike, best to get asap. I'm also wondering about parts?
I thinking i should get that spare engine soon.

Well well...I mean.... I don't know what to say really. I heard the EU has put a tariff on eurobikes as well. I guess its a good time to start saving for that CR450L. Though technically the state I'm in allows dirt bikes to be plated so....hmm...

Its a shame because I think CSC would be a great company to take off for noob bikers and with a 25% mark up theres no real reason to get one.

Then again....maga....

I just found this but who knows how accurate it is

https://qz.com/1307027/trade-war-sur...-tariffs-list/

It mentions that "The final tariff list nixed three of the less powerful motorcycle types"

But I can't find the actual list. This reminds me of what happened with the Japanese in the 80s. If they go by engine class then the tariff will be useless as they'll just import smaller bikes but it did less less powerful?

maybe 50, 125s and 250s? Really need the actually tariff list.

Found a list

Found the following list on Business Insider. Here is the link: http://www.businessinsider.com/trump...roducts-2018-6
It is a 28 page list. The picture shows page 22. I hope it means anything with 800cc or more.

"w/capacity o/800 cc" translates to "With capacity over 800cc."

o/ is short hand abbreviation for "over," most commonly used to denote o/t - over time.

this is good news. may even drive down prices with a market 'less than 800cc'
will bring more suppliers in on the non tariff business.....

does sound like the 80's NBGAF, tariffs were 750cc or larger if i remember correctly. yamaha virago made a 700cc pretty quickly as if they prepared for it. that bike still was faster than larger competitor bikes.

I for one am happy, I think all this trade is more political posturing than a serious tradewar. Most of the crap on the tariff list is BS stuff that has no serious economic impact. Some other article mentioned that a who mess of medical equipment and whatnot is exempt so the administration is just talking big, Even china's retalitory tariffs were for things that don't really effect them.

As long as it stays like this the market for smaller foreign bikes will continue to grow. Although we wouldn't need these foreign bikes if we had HD actually make something affordable and desireable for this market/demographic.

The only other company I know of that does US small displacement is Cleveland Cycle Works and I'm not sure their company is on that sure footing.

CCW bikes are just rebranded Chinese motorcycles.
