Janus Halcyon 450.

Mostly here to post the video on it as there hasn't been a whole lot of info introduced out there to the public yet. I think what really gets me is the sticker shock of the bike, which according to Revzilla is $13,500.

I think the bikes are really cool, and I don't doubt that they are well built, even if it is powered by a 445cc variation on the XR400 engine clones out of China.

The amount of other new bikes I can name that I want that falls within that price tag though, is massive. I would love to meet a person that buys one of these just to hear their own reasoning for it. I love a unique bike, but not that much.

Anyway, video.

Lots of engineering and thought put into it. It is a fun to look at piece of machinery. I believe the only folks that will buy it would be the ones with excess money. They probably own more than one house. Maybe a small plane, a Porsche, a fairly big boat, and throw parties just to impress their guests. It is just eye candy. Nobody will buy this for any serious riding.

On another note.....if you have an old XR400 with a tired engine, you can now buy a brand new engine!

See, and I actually would love to have one just to ride the hell out of it. I love unique machines like that, and I really love the old school styling. I just can't justify it against the reported price tag, even if a part of me knows that the price tag is likely justified to some degree.

Yeah, it's definitely cool, but like you, I could find a bunch of other ways to spend it. If I wanted a bike that looked like that, I think it would probably be possible to buy a bike from the 30s and learn to keep it on the road. On the other hand, if they're paying their workers enough, and their business model is sustainable, I don't see a problem with the pricing, even if I'd never spend that much.

It's good to have another competitor on the market, this one who provides something relatively unique, with the look of the 30s without being over the top, with much better reliability and performance.

The only thing I can think of that is similar is the new Brough Superior motorcycles, and they're 6x as expensive, and an over the top, much uglier version of this.

See, and a part of me agrees. What a bike like this does is allow you to have that 30's motorcycle, with modern reliability, and none of the immense costs that tends to come with trying to keep a 80+ year old machine up and running. In that respect, I think they hit it out of the park. You just lose the appreciating value of the real 80+ year old machine, and instead get a depreciating one. You also don't get the frustrating joy of trying to operate something with updraft carbs, fire hole ports, total loss oiling, manual ignition advance, and all of the other quirky things that come from things from that time period lol

Well, there are quarter-million-dollar cars on the market that I wouldn't be tempted to buy if I won the lottery -- but I can still appreciate them for what they are. Same with this bike.

Nice looking bikes, but I cant pay 13g for a bike with a ShineRay thumper engine.
I could get a Yamaha Tenere 700 ADV bike for less than that.

The big difference here is that I can actually afford this bike. I can't afford cars that cost as much as my house. It's more of a wanting to buy it issue... A part of me does want it, but just not $13k levels of want.

I think that is the part that really gets me the most. The cost vs. source aspect of it. I know them developing their own engine is even more unrealistic, but given the source of the engine they did choose, and then the not very impressive power figure they achieved from a 50cc larger than standard 400cc XR engine variant... Yeah, I just don't feel it. It just feels like you are powering a Rolls Royce chassis with a 1999 Kia 1.6L engine.
