Hawk HP?
I'm curious. How much HP does a factory hawk have? Seems every seller I look at lists a different HP rating for the hawk starting at 10.5 and some going up to almost 15. A 50% increase in power is pretty significant.
Anyone dyno their bike after their mods? |

Lol! OK thanks guys, I never even thought about the possibility of someone mistakenly listing kW as HP rating. I though 10 HP seemed a little low for an engine this size

Are those numbers "at the wheel" with all the other parasitic loses down the line after the engine? I see some places like to "fudge" the high numbers a bit and just have the engine directly bolted to a machine to see how much hp/kw it makes... a 15kw engine can easily drop down to 10kw "at the wheel" when you add those "parasitic loses", things like the transmission, sprockets, gearing, chain, and wheel can eat up a good amount of power

15 kw is about the same as the hawk 229, isn't it? that converts to about 15 hp....which is likely at the motor?

The official Hawk 250 rating is 14.1hp@7000rpm from RPS completely stock with it's too lean carb jetting and silly restrictive exhaust. I could easily believe 10whp on an unmodded bike. With proper carb jetting, around 15 - 16hp isn't too unrealistic. Take care of the two biggest restrictions - head ports and the exhaust, and 18-19hp on a 26mm venturi carb is right int he ballpark. With a 30mm carb you should be right around 20hp or so, depending on factors. This is all crank hp numbers, but not unrealistic ones.
