Why Gear is important!

This is the aftermath of my freeway wreck. The short version of the story is a car cut off another car on the freeway clipped them they bounced off the divider and ended up sideways in front of me two lanes over. i was able to get around them but had to swerve so hard that i started to low side (which i should have just done) stood it back up and high sided at around 70 mph. i flew at least 20ft and landed head first rolled around and slid on my back and watched my bike go end over end past. realized i wasn't dead and in the middle of a freeway so i got up and ran to the side and realized i was hurt pretty bad. dislocated and shattered radial head that they later replaced with a prosthetic after trying to piece it together and multiple fractures in my wrist requiring multiple screws plates and internal fixation. moral of the story my gear saved my life my helmet exploded any part that could detach did and it scraped past the shell. my scorpion exo jacket shredded almost through on the back and shoulder and my alpinestar gloves shredded pretty good too. but i got no road rash at all and no brain injuries so i think they did the best they could. always gear up and avoid in town highways if you can.

P.s. This wreck was about 4 years ago all is well except my elbow still hurts when strain and it lost about 20 degrees of moovement.

It sure sounds like your gear saved your life or from much more serious injury.

Just to be clear this wreck was 4 years ago.

Thanks for posting and it sure drives the necessity of safety gear home.

Thank you for reminding us that safety gear is literally vital. I'm glad to hear you have recovered so well.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Glad that you had the ability and strength to run off the highway after that crash. I lived in Houston for 4 years and that traffic was nuts.

Last year I decided to cough up the money and buy motocross boots. I think I will look at buying some chest / shoulder protection. You are so right about gear being important. It should be on the top of the list before any other mods and upgrades that we do to our bikes. What chest protection do you wear TXDSRIDER? Any recommendations?

I use this because it covers multiple categories.

Thanks for posting the recommendations, Tex. However, the first link didn't work for me.

The Fox Racing titan sport jacket is pretty cool. I'll look into buying that one. Thanks for sharing.
