Well it finally made it's way home and thankfully almost all the damage was to the box, The bike is coming together really quick, I'll post the video when i get it finished.

I'm using loctite as everyone has suggested and plenty of grease on hand Dan, I also plan to loctite the stuff already pre-assembled.

Tim Thank you for the info, I'll give it try after work today.

I'm debating doing some of the mods before putting it all together like the airbox mod and gage cluster upgrade,

And a question to everyone, How many miles or hours would you go easy on this motor before you would consider it broke in enough to take into it's higher RPM

And how soon to change the oil after the first start up to remove metal particals from the motor?

Thanks.

Change the oil before you start it the first time. I changed the oil again at 15 miles then at 100 miles then again at 300. It brakes in at around 500 (or 1000 depending on who you talk to) miles.

These questions will start a debate on here lol.

At a minimum, change the oil before running it. Then again, at a minimum, the first oil change after maybe 100-200 miles.

Everybody has their own methods. If you want to take the soft approach, then don't go above half throttle and say 4000 to 5000 rpm for the first couple hundred miles. change the oil, then don't go above 3/4 throttle and past say 6000ish rpm for a couple hundred more.

I take a harder approach to break ins, but even I don't just go out and beat the snot out of it immediately.

No matter what you do, just make sure you aren't crusing in one gear at the same RPM for long periods of time. Keep the revs and the gears varied as you ride, and make your rides progressively longer with periods of cool downs in between. Make your first ride about 20-30 minutes, let it cool for a bit, then maybe up to an hour on the second one. etc.

In short, go with what your mechanical sympathy allows you lol

I got a gallon of Rotella T5 and put just over a quart in it,got it fired up less than a hour ago and just went up and down the block a few times. I'll give it a short ride tomorrow and change the oil again.

I still have loose ends to tie up, there were too many loose bolts to count and I still haven't got everything with loctite yet.

When I get the video up I'll link it, I show key things that I was wondering about like the airbox, shift lever, rear sprocket, carburetor, and that emissions thing on the head that ties to the airbox and carb.

Thank you all for the advise!

She is a pretty bike, I love that blue on the Storms. Looking forward to updates and mods in the future.

That "emissions thing on the head that ties to the airbox and carb." is known as the PAIR system. It's there to inject clean air into the exhaust to help the catalyst work more efficiently. It's really easy to remove.

What's really fun is to remove the cat and leave the PAIR system intact. Give it a handful of throttle, close the throttle quickly and BOOM!

Yeah, it's great to leave on if you like pops and bangs from the exhaust after modification of said exhaust lol.

The only thing you left off was attaching a coffee can at the end of the exhaust, it gives it a nice bass sound to it!

I'm definitely making upgrade plans and ripping that junk off the bike.

For now though I'll attach the speedo cable to the bike, add the mirrors and brush guards, finish up on the loctite , Edit and put the video up, and then onto the mods.

I'll be coming up with plenty of "Noobie" questions so stick around please!

On Q, I left mine on but put a BB in the vac line and a plug in the fat line. It looks like it's smog legal but it's non-functional.

Really like that Storm. As I've said a zillion times, I wish it was CA legal.

Now that I've read the book, I'm waiting on the movie.
