if there is dirt in here is it getting to the carb or is it filtered?

Carb is most likely just dandy, the ONE job that thing has is to TRAP the crap so it WON`t get to the carb.

Are you experiencing any problems? If not then the filter is just doing it`s job and all`s good. The filter does appear to be empty though, did you drain it or is there a clog upstream?

The filter is in between your tank and carb so the filter is doing its job.

If you're running gas with ethanol that could be your hose deteriorating. Use ethanol free fuel.

The sludge!!

Yup - plant deposits from the ethanol. Lots of cars pre-90's even today still have issues with the corn juice. Some use it in modern cars as an octane booster, but purely ethanol; or E85+.

Usually mom-n-pop places will have a separate pump for lawn mowers and small engines. Just don't use any of that 'stabilizer' crap.. I've NEVER had luck with that stuff.

Startron Enzyme Treatment.. Was turned on to it years back by a Honda mechanic and it works, never had an issue with any of my small engines or motorcycles over the winter when sitting
