Loose Sprocket
So I put a new rear sprocket on a few months ago and when i did it one of the nuts on the stud got stuck and now if i try and tighten it or loosen it it just spins the stud. It has now loosened up the sprocket pretty good. Can i just drill and tap through the sprocket and hub and but a bolt in it? Do i need a whole new wheel. If i do does anyone have a rear 18" drum brake setup for sale. Thanks

Re: Loose Sprocket
You'll need to remove the big circlip then remove the sprocket along with the studs. Put the loose stud in a vice and remove the nut. Rethread it if possible and put on a new nut. If the threads are too buggered up you'll need a new stud. Not a good idea to bolt the sprocket to the hub because you won't have any rubber dampers.

The studs are not attached to the hub, they just fit into a hole in a bushing. Leave the nuts in place then remove the big circlip and the sprocket will pull out along with all 4 studs.

Unless whatever you buy is an upgrad in quality I wouldn't spend the money. I mentioned this before in another thread but my Dad made some out of grade 8 bolts. We replaced both sets on our bikes. He mentioned he'd make more for $80 a set, if your interested.

Sounds good man.....let me/us know what quality these are and if they are a definite upgrade. Also, when you do finally know for sure that everything matches please post it in the parts section.
Thanks, Jason

All right heres an update. I pulled my hub wheel off and pulled the sprocket off the hub. The rubber gromets that are inside the holes where the studs go in are completely torn apart.
heres the hub heres a closeup of the grommet look at how much space is there Do you think I can just stuff some rubber in there? Does anyone have any of these grommets? |
