Not sure if the variants of the Tao Tao bikes have a sealed carb. The PZ30 itself is not a crap carb. The reason you see a lot of people switching to the Mikuni is more often to not have to deal with the sealed carb OR just the ease of tuning since there are so many people running them, and thus many examples to help start off with.

If you sit the Mikuni clone and PZ30 clones side by side, aside from a couple of differences, they are pretty much the same carb. 3 vs 4 bowl screws, Mikuni vs Keihin jets, and the choke lever works in the opposite direction... and that is about it.

Some advantages of the PZ30 carb are that, since it uses the Keihin jets, there are a lot more "inbetween" options in terms of jetting, allowing you to really dial in the carb tuning a little better if you so desire. The PZ30 also comes in a "pumper" version, which when tuned properly can make for a bike with nearly instant throttle response, and the ability to really dial in the tuning even more on the main and needle jets.

This is a "pumper" carb I found on ebay. I have already ordered one from aliexpress before I saw this one on ebay. I have a 2017 Apollo 250 that I just got in Jan 2018. Should be the same bike as mentioned in this thread. I will post pics and let everyone know how it goes.

MegaDan, Can you make a suggestion to what pumper to use for the Apollo 250RX? I purchased the Mikuni 30mm, but if this is better, I would rather try it out. Also, would you start with the same jetting as the Mikuni? I think I have mine at 27.5/117.5 at sea level, but am considering starting with a 30/120 if that helps.

Just search pz30 pumper carb on ebay or aliexpress. I wouldn't say it is "better" but if you have the patience to get it tuned properly it will make for a more reaponsive engine. The inverse ia, it will also drop your fuel economy a tiny bit. They do require a double ended throttle cable, so make sure it comes with the right length you need, or order the right one seperately.

Thank you for the reply. I'll try the Mikuni first. If I want more I'll try the pumper Carb. Appreciate the help!
