Exhaust melting air box

So finally put on the exhaust... Now my airbox is melting!!! Thoughts? I'm tempted to let it melt into a shape and then throw high temp rtv on the inside. I wrapped the exhaust a few times with exhaust wrap before even throwing it on.

Also, what's everyone running for jet? Figured a 120 would be the money. Had a 110 in before.

It's a well known issue with the ebay exhaust. Even with wrap, if there isn't enough of an air gap the air box will melt. You can try to put a reflective heat foil on the outside of the box around the exhaust, but if there isn't enough of a gap, even that will not work.

Others have modified the air box by cutting away the corner that contacts the exhaust, and epoxying new plastic in.

If you don't care about the air box, you can always remove it and run a pod filter.

As far as Jetting, generally the exhaust requires 1 step up in jet size. If you had a 110 before, then a 115 should get the job done.

Thumbs Up

Well, took a sawsall to the corner touching the exhausted. Squished a sheet of exhaust wrap into the corner after lining it with rtv, coated that whole thing, let it almost set and them squashed in another chunk of exhaust wrap soaked with high temp rtv. Figure a bottle of 650° rtv and 2 sheets of exhaust wrap will do the job.

Well, if not, then there are always other options.

too late now but you could just pulled really hard on the exhaust enough to get a 1/2" air gap and been ok.
