DLX running hot

So I'm running into problems with high oil temps on my new DLX. CEL P0118 - high engine temp for a week now. Engine temp sensor was reading 400ohms about 3 minutes after shutting down from a ride (don't have a reference to compare this to). Cranks right up cold and runs happy but boggish. And it hates to start hot unless you really crank the starter with full throttle and dies within 30 secs in neutral, making me think it is indeed hot and the cylinder head is expanding too much.
Valves have been checked, oil has been changed with level confirmed, battery is new and kept on a tender.
So what could be making it run hot? Cool night riding with light throttle and barely any idling.
