Baja BA-250 ATV with no spark

Hello,

I just purchase a Baja BA250 not running and I would appreciate any help you can offer. The previous owner said the ATV had weak spark and intermittently no spark. Right now I get no spark at all.

For troubleshooting I removed pin 5 (kill switch wire) from the CDI box connector. Still no spark. Next I disconnect both connectors (2 Connector, 6 pin AC CDI box) on the CDI box and measured on the connector Pin 1 (ignition Pulse) to ground and cranked the engine and I received .1 VAC. Next I Measured from pin 6 to ground and cranked the engine I measured 55VAC. Based on that information I thought the stator and pick up sensor were OK I re-connected the CDI box and measured the voltage to the coil and received 0 volts. I then added a additional ground wire from the frame to pin 3 of the CDI Box still no voltage to the coil. I thought the CDI box was bad so I replaced it and the ignition coil with a cheap replacement part from ebay but had the same problem. One thing I did notice was the new CDI box was smaller (about 1/2″ shorter and 1/2″ narrower) The CDI box is a 6 pin rounded type connector.

Now I'm questioning if the stator and pickup coil are good or did I install a bad CDI box ? Can someone tell me what the voltage should be coming from the stator into the CDI box when just cranking the engine and also what is the minimum voltage from the pickup coil to the CDI box? Now I'm thinking the .1VAC (sometimes measures .2VAC) from the pickup coil is not enough voltage to activate the CDI and let the voltage pass to the ignition coil.

How big of a job is it to replace the stator and pickup coil ?

Thanks for any help or suggestions you can provide.

What's the ohm reading?
Recent Honda shop manual http://josemaco.files.wordpress.com/...h-62ktjam5.pdf ALWAYS said "100V minimum" (source coil)| "0.7V minimum" (pickup) . NO "ohm reading" info... | Good old Kymco shop manual : http://picasaweb.google.com/iondogck...10508255671074

Sometime air gap btw pickup & rotor are F***ed https://translate.google.com/transla...354&edit-text=

stator

hELLO... A lot of time the replacement of the stator is not needed... check your coil with the ohm meter.. and you will see if the coil is good.. some times it is just the sparkplug boot.. no reading witht he ohm meter when you check the wires.. do the testing of the parts without buying them... they would only be spare parts.. the size of the cdi Does not really matter as long as it is the right one... AC.... DC... they way you can tell which one you need is to see if there is power on the wires or no battery power..
