Brozz mods

I know all of this has been done by a lot of people but I'll throw mine in there too.
First was to change the spark plug to an Iridium plug, NGK DPR8EIX-9, I borrowed this info from Jerryhawk250.

Next thing was to remove the snorkel from the airbox, the snorkel looks to be pretty restrictive.

Then for the exhaust; I looked into getting the crf230 ebay exhaust but I wanted a muffler with a removable baffle so I went another route.
I removed the catalytic convertor and welded it back together, removed the vacuum thingy for the side of the head for the exhaust, so I'm using the oem head pipe. Then I bought a section of pipe from Autozone to use for a midpipe that will attach to the headpipe. I spent about a half hour trying to bend the pipe with propane heat and a vice but gave up in short order. Then I went to my local muffler shop where they bent it for a whole $2.00
Then I welded the support bracket in place on the mid pipe and the adapter collar where the muffler clamps to it and painted everything with high heat paint.
The muffler has a nice carbon fiber look to match the carbon fibre on the Brozz although the muffler is a little bit darker it still looks good.

The sound of the exhaust is exactly what I wanted, It's a deeper nice tone but not too loud. I haven't tried removing the baffle yet to see how that sounds but I'm pretty sure it will be loud.
I also wrapped all the pipe with pipe heat wrap.

Time for the carb: I went for the Keihin pz30b pumper carb. I removed the bowl to see what size main jet it came with and it was a 119 so I left that alone. I moved the clip on the needle down one notch, adjusted A/F mixture screw out a full 2 turns and put the carb and cables and throttle in. I had to play with the pumper adjustment to get it to my suiting and I may have to revisit this in the future.
It started very easily and I adjusted the idle to 1500rpm after it warmed up. I took my first ride with this set up and I am very happy that my acceleration improved quite a bit. I have put a hundred or so miles on this setup and I'm liking it. The only thing now is the top end speed. I need a few more mph to be able to make the runs I want and not run the engine so hard. So next thing for me will be a rear sprocket change, going from a 17f- 46r to a 17f-40r.

Thank you! And thanks for the information you gave me on the pumper carb, this carb seems to function very well with the mods I made. It starts right up and runs great.

I loved my PZ30b while I had it on the bike. Definitely worth doing over the stock carb or Mikuni for the extra pickup when you lay into the throttle. My PE30 suits my bike better, but for a standard bike it is hard to beat.

One thing I was concerned with the pumper part is that it sets down lower and gets pretty close to the exhaust.
I was always told for better performance keep your fuel cool and exhaust hot.
So I decided to put a cover over the exhaust where it comes close to the carb. I had an old Harley soft tail exhaust in my basement and I used a small piece of the chrome heat shield to cover that area. Also I don't have a pic of it yet but at the front of the carb it is about an inch from the head/ cylinder. A little too close I think so I cut a piece of scrap rubber conveyor belting and hung it from the intake directly in front of the carb. I took about an hour ride yesterday and the carb felt good with very little increase in heat transfer. It didn't seem to affect the cylinder at all either as I was concerned about it possibly not getting enough airflow with the rubber in place. I took several temp readings with my infrared temp gun.

Nice work on the exhaust system , i like the idea of the wrap all the way to the muffler.

That Brozz is a good looking bike especially in orange. Maybe it's time to remove the decals and seat inscription and put KTM decals on it to confuse everyone Did you see the red Hawk with the honda decals ?

In regard to the sprocket change; will a 18T fit? I'm not sure if one is even available but it's always easier (and cheaper) to change the front sprocket. It won't be the same jump in ratio you were planning, it's about half as much, but it might be the compromise that you are looking for.

17/46-2.71
18/46-2.56
17/40-2.35

The 18 won't fit, I can almost promise you. The 17 tooth is a tight fit on most of these CB and CG engines. The smaller rear sprocket means he can always down size the front (16 or 15) to shorten up the ratio if desired. It might cost more, but it is also working within the parameters given.
