It's metric, trust me.

Not only is the axle metric, 12mm, there are 4 different thread pitches it could be, 1, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75.

I'm in the middle of a storm right at the moment, if no one steps up, I'll measure the nut tomorrow afternoon.

Don't have one of these to compare for you. As Reveen mentioned, be careful with Metric thread pitches.

I believe my Gio quads are 12mm 1.5 thread pitch.

You can buy a thread pitch gauge to check if nobody here knows.

M12 X 1.25 (which is kind of an odd-ball thread)

Actually, a Dodge Mini-van uses this thread pitch on their wheel nuts, if "stuck" you could reverse, and use one (it would look goofy as all get out, but it should work).

I think a 1.5 would be worse, but still an odd one to find.

Is it a castle nut too? I'd have no idea where to find something like that.

Locally, I would check a nut and bolt supply, maybe a garage that specializes in front end work, and if a locking type nut was not available, i would drill the end of the axle for a cotter pin.

For your reading pleasure:

Actually, in North America, the "usual" fine pitch for a 12mm bolt is 1.5, though most 12mm fasteners use the coarse pitch of 1.75 (meaning: you would be hard pressed to buy a tap, and die, set with this size in it). Changing the axle bolt with a "regular" 12mm bolt is a no-go because the shoulder on the bolt is sized to fit the front wheel bearings, though another axle bolt would do.

daz1984, what stops you from buying a replacement from the dealer?
