What Was The RPS Viper 150 Based On?
I'm very new here and fairly new to fixing motorcycles. I normally work on smaller engines but I love dirtbikes and have never owned my own.
I recently bought up a viper 150 for a very inexpensive price and the engine runs great and shifts wonderfully but it came on a frame that looks like it was driven into a wall . I've contemplated bending the frame back (or ordering a new frame) and ordering new forks and triple clamp from rps but it is pricy for what id be getting and I realized I could buy second hand Japanese parts for less. It looks to me like it might be a note for note copy of a yamaha ttr125 frame or more likely a honda XR100 from around 2004. What do you guys think? |

Welcome! May we see pics? That would help us sort it out with you.

I think it might be like a 1994 honda XR100 frame copy
the first four awfully taken photos (my phone is currently out of working order) are of my frame the last one is a honda XR100 I can tell you from just knowing the frame that it is almost perfectly identical with the exception of the forward motor mounting bracket but I'm almost positive that I can make my own mounting bracket if need be. |

actually with a closer look it looks more like an xr80 frame (see the rear fender supports) but once again i have no way of making exact measurements without buying the thing so I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Good detective work! It sure looks like an XR80. Before going any further, please show us a pic of the motor.

Yes, a Honda CRF100 would be what it is copied off of, I believe even the plastics will work.
I had a "Marshin" version in 2007 , had a 125 and a 150 version for my wife and kids, but they had electric start, but otherwise the same bike.

Not quite
Bad news everyone. Just about every other engine mount fits the engine but all the rest don't . Also, the slant of the square tubing leading down to the forward engine mount is more dramatic on the Honda than on the Viper.
If someone wants a Viper engine in NC let me know. |

Have you contacted RPS? Perhaps they have a frame to sell you? Couldn't hurt to ask...

Where abouts in NC are you? How much for the engine? And do you have the exhaust pipe for it?
