HAWK Dual oil cooler install & temp info

Installed my 2nd oil cooler today / Custom brackets ect.

Did a 10 mile run at 60 mph in 88 deg heat with 70 % humidity.
My trail tech digital head temp rose to 320 deg tops with both coolers.
The coolers are definitely doing their job.

Temps will vary pending carbureter tuning rich/lean settings.

Hope this info helps others with oil cooler questions.

SOME PICS FUZZY

I often wonder when I see pics like this...
how big the still air eveolope produced by the interruption
to the direct air flow over the motor is... if any..

theres the mudgurd in the centre then a kooler on each side
thats alot of surface area to hamper the air flow before it
reaches the motor..

the motor has to be in a lower pressure or air speed zone...

..

I concur Pete, The Mud guard is not there for show. I ride through
some serious trails with mud up to 6" deep. The head was getting caked
with mud without it. I would think the head temp gauge I installed would
explain the cooling effect I am receiving from coolers.

Nice job. Looks like you have yours mounted up pretty high just like mine so it doesn't really block the head. I want to get a head temp gauge myself. I know the coolers make a difference just from the look of the oil between oil changes. Not all black like it used to get before the coolers and more miles between oil changes. Are you leaving the tank plastic off? I got my coolers to fit right behind them.

Pete, I know my cooler is mounted up as high as I could so it doesn't really block the head. Looks like Riggs has his up high too. The key word here is "Oil Cooler". Keeping the oil cooler so it doesn't breakdown as quick. It makes a big difference on the life span of the oil and engine. Before I installed the oil cooler the oil would turn black before I would even get close to 500 miles. Right now I have right at 1000 miles from my last oil change and the oil is a golden brown. I'll be changing it out this weekend. You won't see a big change in the head temps but from Riggs experience that was a 20 degree drop just by adding one extra cooler. That a good improvement in my book.

Riggs, did you take any readings before you installed the oil cooler?

Fab up a skid plate and remove the mud guard. Like you, when off road I go through some deep mud. I had the same problem. I found the skid plate does a good job of blocking the mud from slinging up on the engine and it's low enough so that it doesn't block the air flow to the head. Notice were the mud is caked up?

I was wondering how you were running it without a tank.

Did you install a valve cover model and an oil filter model, or both coolers in one spot?

I found these on amazon. A good bit cheaper than aliexpress for the oil filter model, but I hear the valve cover model is better as it cools the more critical head and top end parts better.

Oil filter model no prime but only $60: https://amzn.to/37HAt61
Oil filter model with prime shipping: https://amzn.to/36AkiaE
Valve Cover model: https://amzn.to/2QsEDZv
